3" feels like 6" when you haven't gotten any in a while (Greek Peak 1/13/12)
Powder day! Called in "well".
Broke out the Gotamas, and they did float. They floated really nicely on the 3" of new snow.
It snowed heavily throughtout the day, with an eventual grand total of maybe 6" by day's end.
The first runs of the day were the best. It was so sweet skiing untracked snow. There was not a hard base, so the 3" that were there upon arrival skied soft. By mid-day we were skiing places that had no base, and we barely felt bottom.
We poached a few trails and enjoyed a lot of fresh snow at da Peak. 3-6" doesn't sound like much, but it's the most powder we've seen all year.

And 6" feels like a foot. I didn't expect too much when I left work at four, it hadn't really snowed in Binghamton at all. The drive up gave me reason to believe the skiing might not be too shabby. I passed one car that had slid off into the median. A lady spun out right in front of me, luckily she slid harmlessly off the road. All told , three vehicles were off the road between Binghamton and Marathon. Nothing like the first snow of the season, even if it's half way through January, takes everyone a while to adjust to slippery roads. I'd say there was about four or five inches in the parking lot. I skied mostly Fields, on the closed side, skier's right. It skied amazingly well, all the way to treeline. I never heard or felt any rocks, though there where spots scrapped down to the dirt. What a relief to actually ski "in" some snow, it was great.
My good luck far outweighed my bad on this Friday the 13th. I did hit a water bar on Stoic that I didn't see. Let's just say I didn't stick the landing. Tweeked my bad shoulder a little, well worth the night I had. I think Fields skied as well, if not better, than if there were a base, no ice. Seemed like there might have been as much as eight inches up top. Keep it coming.
I'll be there right at opening tomorrow. It looks like they may open Alcmene. Hope they get a little LE overnight to freshen things up. Groomers should be pretty sweet.

i skipped school yesterday to ski windham it was very nice. They had about 6-7 inches and it was snowing all day, the stuff in the middle of the trails was crunchy and hard to turn in i skied the sides that hadnt been touched which was some nice wet powder. At the end of the day i jumped the rope under the double which was very nice wet powder, hope you guys had as much fun as i did.
