Louie I’m not sure if you have ever been to Belleryre You literally can’t spend any money in the local area. There is absolutely nothing in that area. The few local motels are scary. For races we end up staying in Kingston or near Windham both 45 mins away. I think it makes my point when local businesses don’t even believe in the viability of thier ski area enough to invest themselves. Thier market is budget minded NYC / Jersey skiers who day trip and bring thier own lunches. They don’t even buy gas locally. Regardless of what Orda builds there the local area is never going to have the LP effect where is multiplies the local economy. It doesnt even work at Gore so it surely is not going to work in the Cats.

The self fulfilling prophecy about Gore. As long as ORDA refuses to advertise Gore (or Belleayre) in NYC metro while advertising Lake Placid/WF, the current patterns will never be reversed. Gore has doubled in size and capacity over the last 15 years, yet still shows around 210K visits per season for the last decade. However, if the Belleayre development actually happens, there will be slope side beds. That will make a difference for the masses, not just from NYC metro, but this should be of interest to PA skiers who may be happy with the shorter drive to the Catskills vs VT. All it will need is some advertising......... |
Anybody have quick view to skier visits over last 15 or 20 years broken out by Gore WF Bell without it being embedded in a 77 page govt doc?

Brownski, No worries bud: (1) I was never angry or thought you put words in my mouth. I was just clarifying your summary of my post. (2) my deleted political post had nothing to do with you. And, anyway, I believe you and I are on the same side of the aisle. |

Look where I found it. Gore seems to be missing some data https://nyskiblog.com/orda-skier-visits/ Not sure it’s relevant though. I think the ORDA guys and the private developers are hoping to emulate Hunter and Windham numbers more then they are the ADK hills

This would help in having a real numbers based discussion. The further back the data goes the better. Again, the slopeside development is all private hedge fund money. It has nothing to do with and will never get back into the local economy. |

I just made this (quasi) responsive so it should display properly on your phone. I'll see if the 2018 numbers are available later today. Got to run, but I will explain later these number are really hard to keep track of because they have been revised more than once. Also why Gore won't publish numbers any longer is odd.

These numbers are updated. ORDA added data back in for Gore skiers visits for the last five years. They also update Whiteface revenue numbers. I can understand preliminary and final numbers but dramatic changes in revenue dating back three years confuses me.
