I'm with you SJ
I also think the people who decide to NOT have kids should be rewarded just like those who do have kids. Why should the gov give tax breaks to those with kids and not those without?? Why should I have to pay for my neighbors kid to go to school??? Total BS if you ask me. |

What you are talking about is a usage tax. Meaning you pay by your use of the schools, like you do with electric. Actually with electric you pay some flat fee, meaning you pay something even if you use none. Maybe some kind of compromise like that could encourage "conservation." Sure to be controversial.
I'm scared too. Peeps with kids should be more scared IMO.

Ok, I'll go along with that. Lets have the people who use only 10bucks of electricity/mo pay that, and those who use 140bucks/mo pay that.

But... as was once said by a famous crack smoking R&B Diva... I believe the children are our future... and everyone must pay equally to educate them! Seriously. I am a huge believer in public education. I don't have any kids, but will gladly pay higher taxes in the interest of improving public education opportunities. I do agree that people without kids should be given some other tax breaks in the same way as those with kids, but not at the expense of funding public education. |

You pay for public education so that you don't have to live in a country that's full of ignorant people. > > > > > > > Maybe it's not working. MM

My kids are out of the public school system, but I still pay 8k+ per year in school taxes. If we didn't pay those taxes the school system, which is good one , would collapse and so would my property value. Catch 22.. Just my thoughts

That was great. I still stand by my statement. I'd be all for a graduated scale, but me paying the same amount as some nut-case couple pumping out kids just because they can is ridiculous. But that's just me. |
Current world population is estimated at 7 Billion.
Current US population is estimated by the US census is 330 million. US population in 2050 is estimated to be about 380 Million and according to this website, world population is expected to be 9 billion. I don't think cutting school taxes in the US is the answer, if anything - cutting foreign aid to any country that is not controlling their population growth rates. If you don't feed them they will not grow. However this means more wars, more social unrest, and a wider gap between rich and poor nations. This is not one of those simple problems - particularly in countries where a large family is considered part of your retirement plan.

the amount of kids you have is inversely proportional to your education
Scotty what is your solution? This is not a US problem it's an India and developing world issue where ideas like be "green" get thrown out the window when the masses are more concerned where thier next meal is going to come from Your party wants to let em all move here making it a US problem long term though.

Only partially true. The correlation is strongest when women are educated and provided with the means to separate sex from reproduction and the best way to do this is with the services that organizations like planned parenthood provide and which unfortunately the far right has taken on to recruit one issue (Fox news brain washed) voters.

In the developing world contraception is the key. Abortion is very rare due to the cost and risks to the mother where medical standards are lower plus it's a barbaric practice and much of the developing world is very religious.

Free contraception massively distributed throughout the world. Public awareness campaigns to educate people that children giving birth to more children will never break their cycle of poverty. Cut back on food aid to countries that have exceeded their carrying capacity. Eliminate tax credits for children after the second child or maybe the third but that's it. You want a family of seven the last four are not tax creditable. Free condom dispensaries in all public bathrooms. Make it easy for the peeps to wrap the rascal! Less US military involvement in foreign wars, especially in countries that have exceeded their carrying capacity.

The fiscally conservative part of me say Scotty is on the right track but my moral compass has a problem with some of this. In effect its is saying we need to starve people to prevent more people from being born. I'm actually ok with limiting of tax breaks but that does nothing to prevent the real problem which is not in the US but in the developing world.
It is in effect Eugenics - look it up if you don't know what it means. This is scary stuff from the Nazi playbook or some futuristic movie about killing people at age 30 to make way for the next generation.
