The plan for today started as Mad River Glen. Was downgraded to Plattekill. Once that was cancelled, I salvaged the day with 'Where's the Snow' by hiking Aqua Terra, the old Innsbrook USA that all the old timers from the 70's talk about.
This is another local hill that I've wanted to do for a few years. We finally have good conditions at home so trying to take advantage of that. We showed up as a snowboarder was leaving. We hiked up the lift line which was much steeper than I expected. First run I hung to skiers left bobbing in and out of the woods and a trail. The pitch I found was really fun.
So we hiked up a what I would say was a green the second time to get to the top, accompanied with a skinner behind us. This time I hung to skiers right and did the same bobbing in and out of woods and trails where there was still nice pitch. Both runs were fantastic. Fresh tracks and still great quality snow. Thanks to 'Where's the Snow' for the pics because I forgot my phone at home.
Instead of a 3rd run we decided to go over to Wolf Park and park a car at the bottom and ski the cross country trails down to the crater. Unfortunately there wasn't much slope or at least enough to ski down in powder. We were able to in spots but finally found a steep enough spot at the crater to straight line to the bottom. The best part of this was the boilerplate ice we skied in the bridge under the highway. I even took my poles for this adventure.
It was a good workout today. I wouldn't recommend Wolf Park unless you are into cross country but the slopes at Aqua Terra impressed me. I'm going to be back to ride more of that fresh snow at Aqua Terra before it crusts up. That was a lot of fun.
