This sounds like a very cool project. I think Loco is going to love skiing here.

At the Vermont 50 a few years ago, a local referred to the place as "bony," which I inferred to mean they didn't get a lot of snow.  Never skied Ascutney, but the countryside for the race is awesome.  I hope they're successful.

Ascutney was a fun hill if you timed it right. Thanks for the link, nice article.

I skied Ascutney many times. A very nice mountain, indeed.

Hopefully the proposed project moves forward, as there are many homeowners and timeshare owners who own at the base of the mountain (Holiday Inn Vacation Club).

I'm a huge fan of the community based ski area idea. Something easy to manage run by the locals with hike to terrain sounds like a very good idea to me. Of course, they will need natural snow to make the summer pruning and grooming worthwhile. I love the idea, I just hope the numbers can add up and make sense.

I'm a big supporter (in spirit not in $ contributions unfortunately) of this organization.

If I had the money I would help these folks out.

I spent a lot of time at both the state park and the ski area about 15 years ago.  My best friend was the ranger at the park for 4 years.  This sounds like an awesome revitalization idea.  Of the Winters that I frequented the area, 2 of them were decent years for snow:

It's a really unique spot in VT.  The summers up there were a lot of fun too.  The park has one of the best hang-gliding launches in Northeast.  The park also hosted hill climbs (run, ride, and moto).  The mtn road in the park was pretty brutal.  I forget the average grade, but I can remember it was a suffer-fest anyway you sliced it.

Wow, great interview. The conversation that followed is as entertaining if not more than the actual article. I guess Benny really doesn't like the idea of MRA, funny stuff.

If you enjoyed that, there are spirited discussions on First Tracks Online about MRA and its solar model.
