I'm not asking which is better for all ski areas.  That obviously depends on the mountain.  I'm asking which business practice you prefer.
Sno you've said a dozens of times you want more snowmaking, bubble lifts whatever. If Whiteface were to open on October 15 or whatever every year for the next 10 years and it meant a reduction in snowmaking improvements (guns, compressors whatever) would you still be in favor of it?

WF will never open on October 15th and Killington doesn't do it frequently either.  It's simply not practical given the mountain layout.
I've lived in New York my entire life.

Having a place that opens early is fine. I usually am not going for great skiing, just getting the legs in shape. The time from the start of deer season to the end is usually too cold to bike steadily and too dangerous to hike-don't like being in the woods with the thought of Camp and a high power rifle around the next tree
Don't ski the trees, ski the spaces between the trees.
