Its clearly a joke, as the state owns bearpen and vly, plus the catskill mountain keepers and 3500 club are not up in arms, somthing that would happen with this land
Would be the key ski area in the catskills, with all the potential, states gotta know that its better then bellayre and I would hope they wouldn't be dumb enough to bankrupt themselfs Back side of bearpen which is private wouldn't be much more then a greek peak type ski area, the vertical is not the greatest down to vly creek Yes private owners still own the land at the base of the good side of the hill
Black diamonds, the easy way down, less moving hazzards

Now NY State wants to sell Bearpen for a casino. No we cant let this happen. It to great of skiing and snow natural and vertical and snowboarding potential to allow this. Everyone on Alpine zone and Harvey Blog should invest together.

No worries. The RE agent has no clue. There are already a bunch of sites proposed.
Casinos NYS would never allow a casino at Bearpen. It is one of the farthest points in the Catskills from NYC (140 miles) and an hour from the NYS Thruway. One of the actual locations NYS is considering is Tuxedo Ridge Ski Area, (44 miles from NYC), and not exactly near the Catskills. |
Bearpen Mountain is NOT owned by the State. Yes - SOME of the land does belong to the State thanks to Ed West and Percy Goff. Ben Lane still owns most of the ski area property. He is the one that has it up for sale. How do I know? We were with him and his brother and a group of skiers and were hiking the old ski area on July 5th. It is still skiable to the bottom.
Ed West and Percy Goff were the bad guys in the story of the destruction of Bearpen. They were the ones that played around with property boundaries and basically ended up stealing some land from many property owners in that area. Percy Goff logged it and then sold it to the State or sold it back to the original property owners saying he may have been wrong about where the property lines were. Ben Lane never got his land back that they took from him. This ski area would have definitely been a game changer for skiing in New York State had it stayed open. It would have become the largest and steepest ski area in New York State. It would have also brought more business for everyone into the much depressed Catskills area. The top of Bearpen is 3,620 feet. NO snow making would be needed for this ski area since it is truly a bowl and holds the snow. The trail from the top to the bottom had a 1,900 vertical. |

Uhm, ever hear of Whiteface? |
Whiteface is different because it needs snowmaking. |
Bwahahahahahahhahahahahaha FTFW |
There is no such thing as a 1900 vertical ski area on the Eastern US that does not need snowmaking. Bearpen seems to hold the snow it gets (like Platty), but without snowmaking it would not operate.
