Hi Guys. Big Tupper conditions are great! Regarding some of the comments - we had some minor mechanical items with both Chair 2 and Chair 3. We brought Larry Wollum in to go through the lifts and he located some minor issues that have been addressed. As many of you know, Larry is an industry expert and has been a big fan of the volunteer effort at Big Tupper. We use Larry regularly for oversight. He is on site this morning to change a switch on Chair 2, which will be good to go by 10:30. Chair 3 will be open today.
The conditions are incredible and we invite everyone up this weekend to ski on the "real thing." On Sunday, there are a number of live musical acts in the lodge, along with some fun events that are part of the Fire & Ice weekend. Come join us!
Check out a quick instagram clip from yesterday. Stay tuned for a little GoPro edit. Conditions were amazing and deep. One of my best days of the year (ski day 31 for me).
No surprise here. ARISE was only formed for the purpose of garnering support from the locals for the ACR. Jim Lavalley has never had a pair of skiis on his feet in his life. The "volunteers" who put in the majority of the work to get Big T open were mostly there because they were all promised jobs when the mountain was up and running full steam.
Now that the developer is heading for bankruptcy there is very little support locally for the ACR. Unfortunately the Mountain itself is tangled up w several Mortgages and will be unlikely to open ever again. What a shame, the town sold it in the late 80's telling all the local taxpayers that their tax bill will be +much lower once they sold it. Of course that never happened but hindsight is always 20/20.
Interesting how ARISE co sponsored the OcTupper fest, most people think the money went to the developer for daily living expenses. If anyone has access(ADK Jeff) maybe you can find a way to post the latest article on the ongoing financial woes recently published in the Adirondack Explorer.
