BENNY! Hi.

This article in nebackcountry implies that someone died over the holiday, but I couldn't find the details:

Can someone direct me?

The idea that someone wouldn't call because of the cost, is further support for the idea that everyone should be charged - put it in the lift ticket.

There is no way you should charge for SAR. Putting a money factor into the situation will just prolong the call and possibly put the caller or callers in a worse situation. This then makes it worse for SAR people. This nonsense has been going on for years. Now with cell phones the SAR people are able to ID and direct people out in many cases. This is certainly easier and cheaper than allowing the already clueless to make another bad decision based on not wanting to spend money and delaying the call for help.

If you ask for an extra fee for SAR, more people might be inclined to leave the ski area boundries because they are covered. This could lead to more unprepared people needing rescue.

Vermont has "nationalized " property tax in the state and created a ton of sale limitaions and fees on real estate sales. They have raised the property tax on 2nd homes to ridiculous levels. Vermont should continue to use some of this money to fund SAR.

TO a large extent it already is. This is what the pro ski patrol and all the equipment is for.
