Enough with the dooms day stuff...it's going to get cold on the backside of this system and we will all recover quickly.
I agree.  Hope for the best, but don't get down about it if it's not epic all the time.  We'll get ours eventually.

Really odd things going on with the forecast. Doesn't look as dour as it did this morning.

Forecast for Gore:

Snow, possibly mixed with rain and sleet before midnight, then a chance of snow. Low around 26. Windy, with a south wind around 26 mph becoming west. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Forecast for Whiteface:

Tonight: Snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 3am, then scattered snow and sleet between 3am and 4am, then a chance of freezing drizzle after 4am. Low around 17. Southeast wind 10 to 18 mph becoming west. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible.

In any case it started to snow around 2pm up on Gore.  Took this at the top of Open Pit on my last run:

Definitely was worth skiing today.

It's still snowing, we've had maybe two inches up here at 2000 feet.  Temp has dropped to 32.

I decided to "LIKE" this thread to see if I could change our luck.

Still some patches of sleet left on the road here in Lake George.  Was just at Sports Page an hour ago and overheard it was snowing at Gore.  It's 36* here so I gotta think it's still snowing at the mountain.  It's raining hard, hopefully it's all frozen at the mtn

Gore facebook says as of 5:20 it's still snowing at the mountain.

Nice pic Harv

You didn't hear it from a kid in a goofy Orange hat, did you? I was just in there talking about it. Well, around 3 or so.

Typical Gore.

We've got a mix going now too - more unfrozen than frozen - and temp is back up to 33. Precip is very light.

Maybe 3 or 4 inches of dense stuff fell before 7:15 when it changed over.

I've got a bunch of pics to work on, so I'll be up for a while. If I changes back, before I sack out, I will post it up.

Remember when I went to Buffalo last year, and it was the best winter ever?

The long-range models or “fantasy charts” keep showing a big cold snow storm coming up the East Coast around the 7th of January.  If we get the cold trough in the East the first week of January it will mean we could see better chances of bigger snow events.  BA

This post was updated on .
It never really changed over here.

There was a light sleet in North River on and off and the temp is still at 33 degrees.

Light flurries now.

From what I can tell we did not lose a ton of base.

You need to go out west more often
I am trying to get excited about the potential of a new colder weather pattern next week but the storm track still looks too far west.  Early to mid next week we are looking at a big drop in temps but from what I see the dominant low goes to our west and will draw warmer weather...but the GFS MRF show a week low off the coast and with my optimistic view...if the low to the west can transfer its energy to this weaker low...boom! Powder for the northeast!  that's my New Year's wish...sorry fuj

Haha seriously, some of my worst days have been out West. Day 1 out there, at Squaw, they got like 8" of snow the day before. Sun came out, everything got baked on and Saturated, and everything froze into place as is over night. Next day, everything that was groomed was bulletproof ice. There was freezing rain and sleet. 2/3 of the mountain was on wind hold. Visibility was probably 40 feet. Anything off piste looked good, until you realized it was completely frozen over and nothing would budge without an ice axe. The tram operator had to stop the tram before a tower and wait for the wind to die down before we could pass it. He said that was the second time in 30 years he had to do it.

Snowbird last year had visibility down to about 20 feet for the whole day. probably 45` out.

Powder wasn't terrible. we got probably 8 inches over the entire week we were there, a few every day. Totally dust on crust. but they got like 3 feet back home.

I'll wish for pow on new years too. Hopefully I'll wake up before noon.

On another note. LH is calling for 6in or so along the green mountain spine, again.
Oh look, there's that donut hole again.
