I just finished a novel from the mid-90s called Water Witches, about a fictional northern Vermont ski resort planning an expansion to a nearby peak that will provide hundreds of direct and indirect jobs; however, two things threaten to throw a wrench in the project -- a severe drought that's drying up the river from which they'll draw snowmaking water and a sighting of almost extinct catamounts (eastern cougars) right where they're planning to cut trails. You also learn a lot about dowsers.
