Donating hair?

So I have a head of hair like the members of Metallica did circa 1986. It's hot right now and I'm getting really close to starting my application process for nursing school and have other things career related I'll be dealing with so I'm starting to think I should cut it off. It's so fucking hot right now out here.

An old ski buddy and hero of mine that passed away in 2005 used to grow his hair out long and every year or two cut it off and donate it to the Locks of Love but like all things on the internet there is conflicting information on that organizations honesty. There are other ones that take donations as well but it's hard to weed through all of the information to figure out what's best. Basically if this is more of a headache than it does good than I'll can the whole idea but I thought it would be a cool thing to do and sort of a way to honor my friend.

Does anyone on here have any knowledge or experience with this, first or second hand accounts would be appreciated.

My daughter did Locks of Love and I didn't realize we paid to donate?

It was a blessing for us because her hair was so long it was a lot of work. She always resisted getting it cut until she thought she was helping other children.

Locks of Love is huge in our town, if anyone has more info on this please post.

Did the locks of love thing a few yrs back. Real easy.....have barber cut it off as long as possible, tie together with ribbon, put in a Baggie then manilla envelope, mail it in. You have to pay for postage.  I work in an oncology infusion center and have many pt's who've received LOL hair....good experience from my point of view.

They often have a tradition of leaving ONE strand of hair long so they can be YANKED into heaven .when they pass on , AND I figure i NEED ALL THE HELP i can get in that dept.
