Drink of the Day

JTG4eva!
Let's see which of you lushes posts on a weekday!

So, whether it's a Tuesday, the weekend, vacation.....whatever, what's your drink of the day?  Share something new and/or interesting.

Tonight I've mixed up a Bittered Sling.  While you could go almost any brown liquor, the recipe proper is Armagnac (2 oz), simple syrup (1/2 oz), two dashes angostura bitters, and ice (preferably large chunk).  Garnish with nutmeg.

Very tasty!  Yes, very similar to an old fashioned, but the grape based brandy (Armagnac, similar to Congac but from a different region, is a distillate of fermented grapes, bottled 80 proof) and the nutmeg give it a distinct difference.

So, what'cha drinking tonight?

I just popped an Immort Ale from Dogfish Head brewery (my favorite). I will also enjoy some local Southern Pines Brewery (NC) Grand Cru...should be a good night!

Merlot pretty much all the time.

Except beer after skiing, some cheap IPA probably, whatever I can find at Tops in North Creek.

When I bought beers at Plattekill for my birthday some bros bought me shots that were pretty good. Wish I could remember what that was. Sweet, but sweet.

The only brown liquor I will touch is Knob Creek. And occasionally Jamieson.

Thanks for the relo, Harvey. S'pose Off Topic is the best spot, but sitting around the wood stove with a drink is a good thing, too!

I picked up a bottle of Jamieson Cask Mates Edition not too long ago.  Jamieson finished in stout barrels.  Nice variation.

Dale's Pale Ale.

Not typically what I'd drink during the winter, but it feels like summer.

I only drink beer anymore.  Never more than a half liter a day.

Typically during winter I prefer dunkels, dopplebocks, scotch ales and porters.  In spring I'll start back into bocks, helles and pilsners.  Summer I'm heavy into hefes, pilsners and pale ales.  Once the Märzen start to flow, I'm almost exclusively drinking them.  The good ones don't seem to stick around too long.  Once they've petered out I'll mix in some pils and brown ales before getting back into the winter mix.

I sprinkle in my favorites throughout the year, and try new stuff, but I pretty much stick to the traditional styles from the mother land in the traditional seasons.  I get on kicks of Belgians now and again, but I can never stick with spiced beers.  I really like them once in a while, but I tire of them quicker than anything else.

Yeah, you can't like Knob Creek and not enjoy other Bourbons.  Now, Harvey didn't say if he liked Knob Creek so maybe it's just the  only brown liquor he'll tolerate, in which case trying others may be pointless.

Wild Turkey makes some good stuff.  I had a bottle of Wild Turkey Rare Breed not long ago, barrel proof and very tasty, and a good bit cheaper than other good Bourbons.

I've never been a wine connoisseur.  Give me a halfway decent Merlot or Multepulciano with my beef and I'm happy.  Never 'got' the whole wine tasting thing, and how one could pick out various flavors.  Well, I've come to appreciate that with Bourbons, as each one is different and has its own distinct flavors.

Mid-cheap bourbon. Surprisingly painless going down... warms you up from the inside out.

I drink it on the rocks but it's a great candidate for mixing with ginger ale

Bookers is great too. I got my brother hooked on that stuff. Fighting Cock can't hang with that kind of competition but, for the money, its pretty good

Sazerac at the Alpine Inn, Crystal, WA.

Not your classic New Oleans sazerac, but who's complaining?
