It should be fall by now right?  Lionel has posted about the potential for flake-age:

Some nice lake effect r**n setting up... lets hope it carries through the season with a whole lotta snow!

carrying a bit farther east to Gore would be nice.
Or ESE towards Plattekill!

I stopped following Joe Bastardi on Twitter last spring after the winter ended, just got sick of his relentless partisan political bullshit. But as the season gets closer I guess it's time to follow him again. Tonights JB Twitpic as retweeted by Albany Weather Examiner:

Trying not to get to excited yet... but excited enough that I am bailing on hiking Saturday to save up the legs for Sunday and Monday. New liners are in the touring boots and MAN OH MAN do they feel so much better. I see a lot more turn earning in my future this season.

Lionel was calling for So VT and/or Whites yesterday for the wheelhouse. Anyone got any more info?

Looks like it time to get my sheep together and start moving the weather page over to winter mode.

Added the 120hr eastern snowfall map in the side bar:

120 Hour Snowfall forecast

Got to make space for the storm track map:

winter storm tracks

and the 48 hour northeast snowfall map:

winter storm tracks

And of course the most exciting moment is moving up the TR forum back under the Woodstove as soon as tBatt and Matt post their traditional first TR of the season.

This year I'm buying dinner too.

Hopefully this year doesn't ski as poorly as last year's first snowfall of the season.

I ski good natural snow in October every 2.5 years or so. Seasons have been great, average, and bad following those October turns. Last year was an anomaly... a worst year in a mean sample. The percentages don't favor it, but every once in a while you get skunked, October snow or not. You can keep your JuJu... I'll take my natural whenever I can get it.

considering that last year the biggest single dump they got at platty was the one around halloween, i would say that anything qualifies as skiable this year.

cold in October is a good thing IMHO.  cold air, cool the ground.  Cold ground cools the air.  More snow early!

When MC2 and I opted out of skiing Stowe yesterday, we had a pretty killer mtb ride.
