I have not checked the acorn crop yet but I suspect it will look like last years, no sign it will be like 2014 though. The Maine coon cat's fur is not as dense as in cold winters, more like last years coat but she has time and I can usually tell by the end of October. You may think I am kidding but these have been pretty consistent indicators. So far I am not real hopeful.

There is a decent amount of acorns down on our local trails already....keeping fingers (and toes) crossed.

Remember the farmer's almanac prediction for last year:

So, let's just say that they don't have a very good track record.

I tell you guys every year, long range weather forecasting (as well as acorn counts, Maine coon coats, or wooly caterpillars) is just guessing.

You'd be better off going by historical averages. If you just start off thinking we'll have average snowfall and average temps, these stupid indicators start to become less important and there's plenty of room to be pleasantly surprised throughout the season.

Hey
Even with all our technology and all the time people spend trying to figure this stuff out, the bottom line is you can't predict the weather. I put no stock in any predictions more then five days out. People don't like to accept that there are things we just don't know (and some we can't know) but it's the truth. Matts right that you should just figure it'll be an average year and then apreciatie whatever you get. And Camps right that Weathermen are totally unaccountable but I don't really blame the them. What people ask of them is beyond what can be done.

I've found the Indian Weather Rock to be the most reliable when it comes to the weather --- I have one in my yard and it has NEVER been wrong.
