You are half correct Sir! Hare is as good as it gets trail-wise, but for the glade-gapping nothing touches Cleavage @ Gore. See you this Halloween @ Ed & Mell's Shindig. Most importantly, Ski you and Martha on any Hill. All the best. |
Gore - High Pines Glade. It's not steep, but has more than its' share of drop offs and ledges. Cover it in powder and rock it non-stop at speed, launching a number of ledge drops of varying sizes in stride, stomping some of the steeper drop offs......all under the watchful eye of the audience riding the lift. It's pure fun.
Whiteface - Empire. Classic, narrow, New England fall line moguls. Trails don't get any better than this.

I'm with JTG High Pines at gore. When the wind blows the snow in there it's great.

Tough question for Gore. So many I like, and it all depends on conditions, but my pick is Barkeater Glades.
High Pines Glades can be an absolute blast, and Lower Steilhang is great on those rare occasions when it's open. A lot more trails would vie for my favorite if management would let them bump up, like they've been doing lately with Twin Fawns. Whiteface: whatever combo of Skyward/Cloudspin gives me a taste of the Olympic Downhill run. THAT'S what sets Whiteface apart from just about everything else in the Northeast for me.

The Wright mountain ski trail is a favorite of mine although I am getting to the point where I have to question my ability to do it safely. The misses and I have been talking about cutting my wings and only skiing patrolled terrain. I think she will let me tour but no more slides and BC ski routes.

The Wright Peak ski trail is cool. I've mostly skinned up it and then skied down, but one time a buddy & I went up the hiking trail. We floundered around just below the summit in waist-deep snow with the wind howling for like 15 minutes (it seemed like forever) before we located the start of the ski trail. Good stuff.
Pee Tex, is your wife concerned because you're skiing solo? |

Somewhat, and because I am just getting older and not as able. At the end of Feb this year I had a simple fall on ice in a parking lot that resulted in a pretty bad injury that took 3 months to heal. Age will do that to you. I think she would like to see me ski where there is much easier extrication if something were to go wrong. I have not done anything but touring in the BC for 2 seasons now and I think she would prefer that it stay that way.

I'd ski Wright (or anything else) with you if you're looking for partners this winter.

Plunge and Blockbuster at Plattekill are up there but I would pick chute and the surrounding woods as my favorite in NYS. I think if I was closer to Whiteface I would answer differently (I love it but I get there so infrequently I have to relearn my way around every time I go) and, of course if we included Vermont, it's almost impossible to answer. But even if I'm talking the whole northeast, chute and blockbuster would be high on the list.

Raymond Brook/ Rabbit Pond, some up, some flat, lot of down, many trees and lots of alternatives. A touring gem. And a shuttle ride up courtesy North Creek Business Alliance. (donation please).
