At Fernie today with a friend from back East. Unfortunately, it hasn't snowed more than a few centimeters over here in a couple of weeks. Although the snow quality is a bit disappointing, the scenery is spectacular.
We rode groomed snow most of the day.... fast and firm
but were able to find some pockets of untracked (slightly wind effected) snow with a 15 to 20 minute hiking effort...
Lots of surface hoar
The snowpack is pretty thin down low...There were about 6 or 7 guns pumping on the lower mountain.
Overall, this seems like a really cool place to live...
The town is very small, The ski area is huge (3000 acres, 3,000 vf). The layout works pretty well for both skis and snowboards. The vibe seems very laid back.
Decent local beer too
Riding here again tomorrow, and then heading over to Castle Mtn in Alberta.
