I've been trying to avoid this post for a few days. The cold and snow that everyone has been enjoying doesn't look like it's going to stick around. After today's rain event and possible light snow event over the weekend . Bikini and golf weather will probably return. I'm not the only one thinking this, here's Josh Fox's take on things.
Beyond next weekend is when the big trouble begins. The big personality characteristic so far this winter has been a very tight and very powerful jet stream in the mid-latitude Pacific. Unfortunately we will see this reemerge again and in a very bad way as much of the energy will be focused on the Pacific Northwest and Canadian Rockies. This will allow for a strong upper ridge to develop across southeastern Canada and New England. It is the kind of feature that can produce both record warmth and rain both of which are probable between the 23rd and 27th of the month. With these changes still a week away there are still a few outs but its not worth holding our breath right now.

I've been seeing signs of this for several days too. Most forecasters have abandoned the phrase "pattern shift" for the east, although I think what Josh described above could fall into that category in a bad way.

double crap - just when it looked like things were going to stay good for a while
Jason what is your take on how this pattern will affect the Tetons for early to mid feb?

Mid Feb in the Tetons..Should be fine. If you have a warm sunny day , go over to GT..JH faces SE and the snow can get a bit heavy.

taking advantage of the free targhee tickets for season pass holders so we are doing 4 days at Targhee and 2 at JHMR. Thanks to this site for making me aware of that promo at Targhee. Looking forward to the low key vibe at Targhee to relax

You guys need to pack up those New York mountains and move north. It is full-on blizzard conditions here at SBRHQ. Boot-top dense powder in the driveway right now. Having a glass of wine waiting for the snowblower to warm up. See snowblek below:
![]() I live near Huntsville, shown on the radar map. I tried to post earlier when yellows and even reds were showing up on the radar but for some reason the image wouldn't load. Powder day tomorrow at a hill that was closed today! Stay tuned...
