Geeky Trail Building Thread.

We got a young guy who has a big heart but unfortunately just as big a sense of entitlement.  

This popped up in my feed at the same time as what seems like an annual text detailing selfishness and  the unnecessary drama of a boy whose isolation stalls life’s man building process.  

Hopefully a forward from his adopted life coach helps, otherwise I fear the great accelerator of manhood - the punch in the nose - may be our last option...

These seem like cryptic complaints. Did he harm anyone? Do his actions reflect badly on your trail-building group? Is he struggling in some other way, and he's lashing out because he's too proud to ask for help?

Or is he just a dickhead? (Lots of those around, too)

After ten years of local involvement with trail work and advocacy, it has left me with a poor opinion of a large percentage of mountain bikers. The sense of entitlement is astonishing!

yeah, me too but I’ll keep building cause the small percentage of the good is worth it.  

We are actually in good shape as far as people being on the same page. Just a couple of lost renegages and the hub revolves around me types....

 

Do you think it's a function of the kind of people who get into trail building? I assume it's mostly younger and older dudes who don't have a lot of family commitments on weekends - kinda like certain guys that have the "me me me" attitude at ski areas?

I did a few trail building days at SMBA, and I didn't notice any total pricks, but I guess Saratoga might be a different scene than Wilmington or Flag.

you shouldn't assume so much.  

I’m not talking about trail builders but more about the people that don’t show up, have no idea what’s really going on with the land manager or anything about trail building but are super quick to voice their shitty opinions.

That being said, trail builders can be a bit of a weird bunch, I know I am.
