Conditions:  good where groomed, crappy elsewhere.  Terrible management today.  North Quad spinning, but Sleeping Bear closed and perfectly groomed.  TopRidge and Straightbrook not open either because they couldn't be bothered to groom them a second time and get rid of the ice.  Gondola actually has a line, although a short one.

About 4 inches, very wet.

Lunchtime update:

Sleeping Bear and North Quad open.  No more gondola line, so summit might be open.  Conditions have improved on lower terrain with the temps warming up.

Uncas in one word:  Terrible

Windswept sheet of ice that was impossible for me (or anyone else) to get an edge on.  More people walking down or sliding on their butt then skiing.  No one was enjoying it at all.  Simply trying to survive it to get to the summit.

Open Pit and Cloud skied well on the summit.  Back to the North and front side now.

I live about 45 minutes away. Killington/Pico are about 1.5 hours. If I didn't have kids, I would ski there more often. The kids programs at Gore are great, but the skiing is getting pretty boring. I do also like the regulars who ski Gore. Lots of cool people there. Maybe if we get two feet of snow soon and I can ski in some trees things will change for me. (fingers crossed)
This is exactly how I feel. I'm thinking Killington next year. Might be fun to switch it up.
I think it's extra frustrating because the mountain could be SO GOOD.

Today was a joke for mgmt so we called it "make your own fun day", so therefore it was a blast! Poached eggs for breakfast and lunch!!

Gotta go to know

Not re-grooming Uncas in the morning was a big mistake.  I'd be surprised if there were no sled rides as a result from that death trap.

Otherwise, a very fun, and uncrowded day.

The AE2 is such a great addition to the mountain.  So much more convenient than the gondola to lap the front side terrain.  Thumbs up to management for opening it today, bc it doesn't always run midweek.  If it was still the old one, I'm certain it would not have been open today.

I think gore will be great for MLK weekend.  Echo, Tahawus, and most of the Dark side are opening up.  Definitely going on Saturday, and may go Sunday instead of Whiteface depending on how Saturday goes.

Final report from today:

Sleeping Bear was ROTD.  Lapped it many times.  Was one of the last people down when they closed it for the day.

I'm looking forward to this weekend when there will be much more terrain open.  Should be better than Whiteface by far with less crowds and more terrain.

Right now, they've confirmed that Burnt Ridge and the Dark Side open Friday.  Echo will open on BR, and Hullabaloo, Lower Darby, and Little Cloud will open on the Dark Side.  Tahawus also  looks ready to open.  They blew some snow on Pete Gay, but I don't think they blew snow on the bottom, so that won't open most likely.

Got some good pics today, but I've gotta wait till I get back to school for faster Internet to post them.

Gore got an inch or two of crust. Trees rimed even at the peak. Uncas was a shitshow. Watched my friend fall and slide almost all the way down to the SBQ. Lost count of how many skis I retrieved for the fallen. Decent amount of people there for Why Not Wednesday, but that meant things iced up early, as usual.

Something just isn't right at Gore this year, but no employees I know are saying anything, almost like they've been told to keep their mouths shut.

Oh absolutely. That most definitely happens - inferred or as direct advice . They're wise to listen as nowadays their quote ends up as the next viral post.

Still, it makes one wonder.

Maybe after all of these years of being treated worse and worse, they just accept the fact that it doesn't matter how good you are at your job, nobody appreciates what you do, nobody compensates you properly for your work, and nobody cares if you're any better at your job than the next guy. So the bare minimum (just enough not to get fired) is good enough, and it's hard to get motivated to do more than that.

Or maybe I'm just projecting.

I know that feeling. It's why I retired early from my job with NY State. Job satisfaction depends entirely on your immediate boss.

QFT. Well maybe a lot if not entirely. Still.

Anybody know how much Gore got overnight?  Emily had 1.5 inches, but sno said 4?
