Gore March 9 2014

This post was updated on .
After being at Belleayre for the Kandahar we had originally planned to ski at Plattekill today.  I woke to no sun and a little light snow and checked the radar which indicated it would not be as sunny and warm in the morning as the forecast had said.  We only planned to ski a half day so we decided to hit Gore on the way home instead.  We had a late breakfast in Albany and got to Gore at 11:30.  I decided to park at the Snow Bowl and was rewarded with a parking spot about 50 yards from the Hudson lift.  I picked well as it was a blue bird day  once we got to the Daks.  With the wind it was chilly and the snow did not thaw out

Armed with our rock skis our goal was to ski as many of Gore’s glades as possible.  The glades under the Hudson chair look so inviting but so thin so we headed to the Sagamore area.  Borelis was nice and the top but pretty sketchy at the bottom.  Sagamore itself was groomed and was a fun fast ride.  I thought that always left that bumped but I don’t get to Gore all that often.  Tawhaus glades were really nice and reminded me of some of the nicer glades at Jay.  Chattamac Glade was a little crusty and tight but also fun.  We got a solid half day in and headed home.  A nice day for my son to unwind from the race scene that we enjoyed together.

Where we parked at 11:30

The down side of this is a 3 mile part xc run at the end of the day.  My son didn't like the run out it but I like the snowbowl.

Glad you got to ski some of the glades at Gore Coach. The trick to avoid the 3 mile cross country ski is to get yourself back to burnt ridge (via twister/echo crossover) and take barkeater glades. That drops you about 300 yards above the bridge that takes you back to the bowl.

Bummer. Then your only other option is the shuttle bus:)

Hopefully at some point they will put in another trail off BR that makes the connection easier without impacting the glades on that side of sagamore. The pipeline trail is a PIA but its all we got.

A black trail down about where that glade is would make sense

Funny thing about pipeline is that the more you ski it, it kind of grows on you.  We hated it the first year it was open, and now its kind of old school fun.  Yesterday, for example, we parked at the bowl after you.  Ski Bowl glades, boreas, barkeater were all close.  We had a lot of fun on the summit, especially skiers left double barrel, Straight brook and dark side glades.  After that kind of intense skiing, it kind of feels fun to coast and take in the view.
