Re: Gore Mtn Terrain Limits and Racing

Harv: Mike ... interesting concept brought up in the forum regarding putting a race trail on the Barkeater side of Sagamore.  Obviously we know it wouldn’t happen soon, just a few hardcores thinking about the issue of racing blocking access between SkiBowl/BR and the rest of Gore. What do you think?

Mike:  I don't believe racers would want it. They prefer race finish arenas that are accessible and visible.

Harv: Would that idea be legal, and within the 40-mile limit?

Mike:  Yes it would be legal. At build out of everything currently approved, we're at +/- 36 miles.

Harv:  Does the stuff on Front Street's property go against that limit?

Mike: The limit is only on state land. As a point of clarification, we only operate on lands of state or the town of Johnsburg, not Front Street land.

Harv: Is the Haymaker terrain suitable for racing?

Mike: It could be.  Our plan is to do the blasting necessary on Hedges.  This would allow us to have racing on Echo without blocking access. Ultimately skiers could access Burnt Ridge by Cedars and return on Hedges. And access the Ski Bowl via the North Side.

Harv: I remember you telling me Echo would work for some racing, but not all?

Mike: Echo would work well for Slalom and Giant Slalom; we'd still need Twister for Super G.

They set all but 4 towers today. For some unknown reason they quit early and, one assumes, will return tomorrow to finish up. All of the towers set were done in one morning so far. Probably an hour of work remains for the chopper.

Helicopter started flying at Gore

I didn't get any pictures but yesterday they started placing the towers on the new lift line on Gore. I do not think they will fly today because of the weather but they got quite a bit done yesterday. Just thought I would let you all know. Looks like it is going to happen this year.

JMP is right. No flying today in the rain and fog.

First tower in flight yesterday:

Looks like there is still some color in North Creek.

That's wicked cool, eh? Can't wait to see all the chairs hanging from it.

Bet we have an Early Season Dump and we'll ski the 46er.

Like when Sags opened, remember? The December storm hit and Sags, which had no snow, got 3.5 FT and opened up with one of the more popular ski days on here. 46er could be another.

From Gore:

"Hudson Chair load test was a 100% success.

We have a punch list of details to complete before we get operation certification, but the big stuff behind us now."
