On Sunday, April 17 I skied from 10 to 2. Original plan was from 9 to 4
I was by myself and had to do some house cleaning in the morning, as I was finishing with my seasonal rental.
There were flurries when I arrived. Gore's top got around an inch (of snow) the night before and one-to-two inches of rain before that. In the morning temperature at the top felt as it was above freezing, but it was still dropping as morning went on. Later when I got off gondola I checked thermometer on top of Bear Mt. - it was below 30. Sun came up for a few minutes around 11 and I heard patrollers speculating about could opening Lies/Rumor if sun bakes them. That did not happen, at least not until I left. Later it got persistently cloudy. Hallaballo, Chatiemac, Hawkeye, Topridge and Uncas were all skiing great, my dull edges held on as trails did not get a chance to to freeze. I understand now how grooming ruins trails recently soaked with hard rain. Water got stuck with no chance to drain, good thing it was not too cold. No glade was open, despite some projected in snow report. I do not complain - conditions were alright, those are just some observations.
Despite good conditions, skiing did not feel fun for me that day maybe because I was really looking forward for warm bumps on Lies. At the end on my day I moved on to lower mountain and as planned finished on Twister.
There were around 125 cars in the parking lot. When I was leaving I believe I saw General Manager Mr. Pratt walking thru lodge taking to skiers, shaking hands. I don't know him personally so I nodded "hello". Should have walked up and thanked for a great season.
