Gore Mtn, NY: 12/10/11

This post was updated on .
Much better than Thanksgiving weekend.

Foxlair was firm and fast.
Ruby Run was nice and soft.
Skiers right of Sunway (between Foxlair and Wild Air) was extremely thin. I got some scratches for sure.
Sunway to Quicksilver skied nicely. Soft, man made snow.
Quicksilver was pretty scratchy. Decent sized granular moguls formed by noonish. As per usual, no rhythm to them.
Chocolate Corner was not as chocolate-y as last weekend. More of a cookies n cream feel to it.
Jamboree also skied nice.

Terrain park setup: Flat box, shotgun down rail, flat rail.

Guns going on Pine Knot and The top of Topridge. Not sure if they were going on Topridge or Uncas once they were out of sight, though.

Some of the Lake Effect was reaching Gore. Coming down at a decent rate, but nothing accumulating.

For better or worse the great thing about Gore is that as much as things change they stay the same. All of you long time Gore skiers will understand. In any event, it was pretty much the same thing at Gore today; Foxlair to Sunway to Quicksilver to Jamboree. Ruby Run was open and I have never appreciated the ten turns between the saddle lodge and the Foxlair merger more. It was quiet and had good cover. The cover in general has improved but there were still some thin spots and it is getting polished in other areas. The snowmakers are pounding Topridge and Pine Knot but it is hard to see how either will be open tomorrow. The guns are lined up on upper Showcase and rumor has it they will work on upper Showcase to Sleighride soon. They are blowing snow over on the tube park. I know it is important to get that open for the holidays but really? Is that the best allocation of resources?

I skied sunday. Fox lair and quicksilver were scratchy by 11:00. I actually used ruby run, which was nice. Other open terrain was nice. Getting subway to 3B would really help split the traffic.

Lots of guns at the top of bear. I assume it was like that all the way down top ridge and pine knot. Guns on sunway and lower sunway. Also at the ski bowl, which doesn't make sense to me.

They lost my wife's business for the day as she didn't feel like she would get $55.00 worth on one trail.

Looking back over my trip report from Sunday, I have to admit that I glossed over the fact that Foxlair was a bit scrapy.  But all  in all it was a great day of skiing, especially considering the roller coaster weather over the past few weeks.  It was really good to see snowmaking ops continuing throughout the day, even though temps at the base must have been pushing the freezing mark - one of the few days they've been able to go round-the-clock.

I thought the same thing when I read Tomcat's comment last week.  Then I looked at Gore's website and found out that they went to full season pricing as of Saturday.  So that's a $75 weekend rate, less $20 for Campbell's Soup = $55.  Frankly that pricing doesn't seem fair to me given the limited terrain.  I don't know if Gore extended early season pricing to those who paid this weekend, but if they did it wasn't apparent on their website.
