While I don't know for sure, judging from their reports, it seems that Gore is doing a better or faster job at getting snow down this year. People deserve value for their money. The mtn deserves a good snowmaking effort and the local merchants, well they deserve it too. More cha-ching for their business. I truly hope it's all back on the right track

Also, they are going to lenghts to give us detailed info on their snowmaking efforts. Makes people feel more love.

Hats off to you Mike Pratt!

It was very impresseive to see how fast Hunter buried itself. Wow!

that picture wouldn't have been the one i chose to demonstrate your snowmaking progress

70's Gore Kid - You could get that shot with a heli, but not one big enough for skiing. There is a company called Gravity Shots which does some awesome filming via a remote controlled heli.

IMO making snow and opening Burnt Ridge before Christmas holidays is essential to alleviate crowds. Who can forget last season's snow-making whales on Sagamore. Is there a snowmaking priority list ?

Any idea what terrain they expect to open tomorrow? I'm thinking about heading up. I know this week they had been blowing on Lies, Chatiemac, Twister and a few others. Harv, any insight into tomorrow's trail openings?

From Gore:

"We are currently making snow on: Lower Showcase, Twister, J - Bar Area, Wild Air, Ski Bowl, and Lies.

Showcase to 2B is open and is skiing nicely.

For tomorrow, our goal is to open Lies; at this moment, it is looking likely.

We will be making snow tomorrow on Lower Showcase, Twister, J-Bar Area, Wild Air, Ski Bowl, Wood Lots, and Steilhang."

I hear (from a pretty reliable source), they're trying to get the North Side and Dark Sides open for Christmas week.  This probably means Pete Gay, Sleeping Bear, Lower Steilhang, and Hullabaloo.

I also heard that Chati is going to be the sacrificial lamb.  I don't feel like there will be snowmaking on that trail for a while.

Sounds like your info matches up pretty well with mine Matt...

Through Christmas Eve: Twister, Wild Air, Hullabaloo, Lower Darby, Pete Gay, Wood Lots, Santanoni, Little Cloud, Sleeping Bear, Twin Fawns, the Tube Hill, Village Slope and the Base Area.

Christmas Day: Well deserved day of rest.

After that things are a little more up in the air. Possibilities for 12/26 and beyond include Uncas, Open Pit, and Fan Guns on Headwaters and/or Sunway.  That's a long way off.

Any or all of this could change, but that was the thinking yesterday PM.

thats the word that I got from Mike P. when I talked to him sunday. Open pit should be hit at the same time as the dark side because it is on the same water line. He also said the Burnt Ridge would be hit over the break.

They were hitting Twister, wild air, Hullabaloo and lower darby Monday.  I'd like to see Uncas open for the holiday week because crowds, Pine Knot will be a mess.

Excerpt from a press release from Gore:

NORTH CREEK – Gore is planning to double its current amount of open terrain in preparation for Christmas week.  Guests should look for a minimum of 40 trails open by December 26, serviced by 12 lifts including the North Quad and the High Peaks Chair.

Snowmaking will prioritize Uncas, Open Pit, and trails on Burnt Ridge Mountain during the holiday, and guests should look for more trails opening during their vacation at Gore.  Four of Gore’s five freestyle areas will be open, providing elements for all ability levels, even first-timers.  The halfpipe will follow soon after.

The North Creek Ski Bowl will offer lift-service tubing and family-friendly skiing and riding on Village Slopes from 11am-9pm daily from December 26-January 1.   Also during the vacation week, the North Creek Business Alliance Shuttle will operate between the Ski Bowl, Gore Mountain, and Main Street from 8am-4:30pm so visitors and residents can enjoy car-free complimentary transportation around the area.

Gore Mountain is excited to host Burton Snowboards, so riders can demo the latest boards on Tuesday, December 28.  That same evening, Warren Miller’s Wintervention will premier at the Tannery Pond Community Center in North Creek, with showings at 5:30pm and 7:30pm, to benefit Winter Treks.

Wow. With that, Gore is certainly stepping up the PR aspect and adding value for their customers. Well done. I like the way they spelled out for people what they could expect over the Christmas holidays and even pledged a certain level of open terrain.

A half pipe?           What the heck, they haven't had one of those in years.

Where's this pipe gonna be located, Harv ? They're not refering to the Bowl are they ?

Hear anything about snowmaking on Sagamore/Echo?
Last year they opened for MLK weekend, looks like this year as well.
