Harvey Road October NY TR Contest

This post was updated on .
Reading the latest forecast on Friday night's winter weather event got me thinking...

Somebody could snag some turns early Saturday morning.  Our buddy MadPatSki has a monthly ski streak going where he hasn't missed skiing in any month for something like four years.  October is one of the tough months to keep the streak alive. I'm sure he'll be eyeing up this system.

So ...  submit an exclusive, publishable TR to Harvey Road, that documents legitimate New York State turns anytime in the month of October 2010, for a chance to win your choice of a single day lift ticket to Gore Mountain or a full ski-tune at the Gear Source in North Creek.

If there are multiple entries that qualify, the best TR as judged by the HR staff, will be the winner.  Deadline is noon on Nov 2. Send submissions to: harvey44@nyskiblog.com.

TR has to include 3 publish worthy pics and 200 words. We get to decide if a TR is worthy, but if you got out and earned it, and can prove it, we'll deliver the swag.

If you really have no use for either of those prizes, and your TR is noteworthy enough to be published, I will try to work with the winner to figure something else out in the Northern Adks or elsewhere in NY.

Can anyone say ... dawn patrol on the Whiteface auto road?

It is so much fun and pretty common to snag an early ski opportunity on the Whiteface Toll Road!

So, if you'd like to whet your appetite for an October ski trip up and then down the famed Whiteface Toll Road, you can check out these TRs (I think that means Trip Report...?)

Great Idea Him Say.

While we're at it, let's have some fun by asking what's the earliest date someone's skied the Toll Road.

Currently, Teleskiqueen's November 9th has the lead.

Does my October 8 ski count even though I wasn't a blogger then...?

Seriously - I could see the yellow line most of the way down!!

How come no one hiked WF and skied any of the upper trails. Is it frowned upon?

Some people did, just not many.

There wasn't snow all the way to the base of WF, so you would have to hike out. At the Toll Road, you could ski the whole way.
It's a much more consistent, mellow pitch on the Toll Road. MUCH easier to hike than WF.
The Toll Road is flat. No bumps/ditches/rocks to beat you or your skis up. You only need about a 5" base to ski the toll road without ruining your skis.

How about a 2018 revival Harv? What kind of prizes are in the NYSB swag closet?

Back in the day we had a relationship with Start Haus and gave away a pair of new Nordica blems.  I contacted them again this summer and they no longer have the blem relationship with Nordica.

While the timing isn't right I've actually been thinking about some kind of MTB event for a worthy charity with bike swag as an incentive.

Maybe it’s time to start an NYSB Store to sell the stickers (and mugs and hats and T shirts). Then you can just dip into the inventory. I’ll bet some people would buy some NYSB coffee mugs.
