So, fly, fly, west, young man. The one big boost to the ski travel industry is the lowest price for oil for, like, forever. I just flew direct to Milan, Italy for 750 RT. And that was 9 hours. Take advantage of it. It's snowing everywhere out west. God Bless El Niño.

Coach - what about Jay? Is just not worth the extra distance from LP, or is it not going to be any better than Stowe or smugs? Also, we have an almost 5 yo who has skied four times and a two year old. We have passes at a local hill that probably won't be open til Jan at this rate. I was thinking o going to smugs or jay around 26-29. Will that be insanely crowded? And will it just be rain? Any thoughts? It seems like jay should be colder but both forecasts seem to be rain or borderline rain .... Smugs has a great rep for kids. I imagin neither place will have much open.

Park City just got a good blast of snow.

I was referring to the ski areas on the web site harv posted..I am well aware of the snow out west..By the way the current pattern out west is not a El Nino patern..If it was ,storms would be entering SoCal. It's just your standard West is having a better year ... Dom if the current progs hold, Jay will not fare any better...

I think Jay would be an extremely bad call for a 5 yo with limited experience for Christmas week (unless you plan on water parking it, then it will be a huge hit). Pretty much anywhere is going to be terrible Christmas week... limited terrain and holiday week equals massive crowding everywhere. Most beginner terrain is lower elevation which is the hardest to cover when temps are not cooperating and rain/warmth is washing previously made snow away. Smuggs does have beginner terrain open at Morse and they will continue to focus on that whenever they can. Who knows if they'll be able to open much by Christmas but they are a better bet than Jay for beginner terrain because it is such an important focus for Smuggs. Whereas Jay is just trying to connect Stateside to Tramside and get their HSQ open. Jay has a lot more ground to cover. Though Smuggs will be massively crowded as well. There are no good options that week, guaranteed shit show everywhere during the holiday at this point, IMO.

Just come down to NJ and go to Six Flags. They're open till January 3rd for "Holiday in the Park". I may end up there this weekend, although I really want to go skiing to get in shape for my Steamboat trip.
I've lived in New York my entire life.

Mountain biking will get you through the dry times. It's what we do round here.

Jay's snow making capacity is small compared to other areas becuase they don't need to make a lot of snow. When the trees are not on I find I get bored pretty quick at Jay

As your attorney, I'd advise you to ingest all of your remaining meds before flying.

One of the things I love about Tahoe! Green Crosses and bro brahs with the hookup everywhere. Just don't cross into Nevada! |

Similar scenario in WA state... no need for a pre-determined hook-up. It's all above boards. Recreational is a bit more pricey due to the taxes, but that doesn't seem to deter the visitors. 2 to 3 ft...Epic conditions @ Stevens this weekend... screw Tahoe... you should get a ticket to Seattle. |
Always wanted to see Seattle.

Coach, if you're still thinking about a trip, maybe go to Charlevoix. They have real snow, it's a real mountain (aka the candians train there on the east coast), exchange rate is good, and at 6 hours... not the craziest trip.
As a bonus, it is supposed to have the best resort food in this hemisphere. |
lol
I was just pricing out Le Massif.. Lodging in Quebec is down right cheap... I am planning on going there on the 6th or 7th...Depends on how the storm track sets up... It's a great mountain..I was there a few years ago.. Like Ml said, awesome food http://www.firsttracksonline.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9319&hilit=le+massif http://nyskiblog.com/le-massif-du-sud-qc/

Scratched the father son ski trip - the weather just is going to awful next week
Have to spend one night to lock in my SPG status for next year so the wifey and I are going to go have a nice dinner in Burlington, walk around town and improve the economy over there across the lake in the land of Bernie the the Socialists. Kind of like Bennie and the Jets but socialism costs a lot more than jet planes. Happy wife, happy life
