Hickory Ski Center Work Days 2015

This post was updated on .
Hickory work days are 9/26 and 10/17. Meet in the lodge at 8:30 AM and  be finished by 1:00 PM.  Volunteers receive a complimentary day pass for each day they work.

We could use the help cleaning up the trails.

What's a "Hickory"?

Hey all!  I like skiing in NY, grilled chicken and puppets.  No particular order.

Carya ovata or shag bark Hickory is a type of tree that grows in the North east and is common in the Adirondacks. Hickory wood is very hard, stiff, dense and shock resistant. There are woods that are stronger than hickory and woods that are harder, but the combination of strength, toughness, hardness and stiffness found in hickory wood is not found in any other commercial wood. Kind of like the skier who frequents Hickory the ski area outside of Warrensburg that ML mentioned
Don't ski the trees, ski the spaces between the trees.

lack of snow fall, they are bigger then they look in areas, plus there are saplings in there that have to go.

The ferns would be dead laying flat on the ground by the time it snow a foot. Seems like a lot of wasted effort

K man
Like Sig said, it's the saplings mixed in with the ferns that can grab a ski.
