Hunter: 1/6/17

Took advantage of the college week discounts at Hunter to get a $39 lift ticket.  Turned out to be a good day for it as they were about 90% open and had resurfaced after the most recent r*in, while Belleayre did not.  Best runs were Wayout, Clair's, Purna, Jimmie Heuga, Cliff, East Side, and Minya.

I met Glade Runner and Ethan Snow today also.  Always great to meet people who I've interacted with on here.  They are very good skiers and it took effort to keep up.  I look forward to skiing with them again.

Pictures are below.  I borrowed most from Glade's Facebook page, unless I note otherwise.

Hunter Approach from the West.  Normally I come from the other side.

F-Lift didn't run today, but the trails over there skied well.

6-pack over Hellgate.

Moguls on Cliff.

Thanks for the TR, Gladerunner and I were hoping to partake in some LES fun up North today, but the storm was too far North. Looking forward to skiing McCauley someday. Always great meeting, and skiing with fellow passionate enthusiast. I also met Gladerunner through this forum. As much as most people here think he's an ass, and he can be online, he has been nothing but kind to me since we met. He is one of the most passionate skiers I've ever met. He walks the walk. Hopefully I'll get the chances to share some turns with you down the line.

I skied Hunter last Sunday. I made my first run ever on Annapurna. It was challenging, Glade said it was groomed yesterday, it was not on Sunday. It actually skied beautifully, where there wasn't ice. It did give me a workout. I liked it, steep, narrow, bumpy, and icy, pretty long too.

Lapped Annapurna and Claire's yesterday, both were groomed out nicely.  Forgot how sweet 'purna is as it has been closed every time that I've been to Hunter the past 5-6 yrs.  Narrow, steep & with a big curve it has the most character of any Catskill trail IMHO.  Could've used some fluffy stuff but the hard white pavement was fast and predictable.  The scary sign at the trail head was effective at keeping it quiet all day, it was a nice escape from the preweekend Hunta crowd.
