So happy with the last three days of riding..

Storm day - midweek.. Gotta love that..
Friday - ton of fresh - trail openings..
Saturday - hiking for slack country...  Stuff is deep...  Avoiding the crowds...

today... More of the same...

GREAT snowfall!!!!!   Good to have a real winter back..

Ya Man!!!  Another 2" last night and about 4" yesterday.  Cars were parked 1/2 mile down Platty's access road and still no liftlines!!  I'm already warming up the car!  Did you catch Robert Randolph down at Bearsville Friday?

Yes - we get it.. Plattekill is less crowded... You made the right decision..
Hunter sucks...   ;)
But the slackcountry is the best it's been in years..  Classic Northern Catskills ravine skiing..  In all the ravines..

Not a big fan of RR - may be a bit burnt out on him...
Hitting Claypool and Mike Gordon soon..  Stoked..

Platty was Nirvana on Saturday, great to see you out with your family. I was shocked when I left, I kept waiting to see the end of the line of cars. Yes, I never waited more than 5 minutes, maybe it's because there's nothing that doesn't take a bit of time to return to the base, at least on the double side. I laughed a little when I saw the mini corral dividers at the triple first thing, didn't know they even had them.

Nice, I LOVE the catskills bc.

Only have one day in the woods there this year.... it was still thin.

Was hoping to change it soon. There are so many ravines and peaks I still want to ski that have been waiting for snow for years. I picked up the new Ice Climbing guide recently, and it had an interesting note about the geology of the hills I hadn't seen. Apparently the eastern Catskills were where the strongest and fastest current piled the larger stones of the historical Acadian Mountains, making peaks like Hunter rocky and steep and peaks like Plattekill or Belleayre farther west rounder as the water carried finer particles there.

That said, I think there is probably a sweet spot in the middle. Big enough particles for rocky and steep and a bit more in the east to catch the lake effect. Wonder where that peak would be.

Hunter's trees were incredible after the storm.

The typical thing you see is a rock band/cliff near the summits by Hunter..  Easily jumpable..
And paths go through it..   Watch out in spring... Bears live there..

Then it's all cathedral forest down to the runouts...

I realize this is the NY ski blog but I have had maybe the best ski conditions ever without leaving PA . Elk mt,  Prompton State Park And Dorflingers Animal Sanc. I am still waiting for someone to wake me up.
Want to spend special time with your children, teach them to ski or snowboard. The reward will be endless!

ditto... ski'd lines at blue mountain I never dreamed possible before heading out into the local parks and greek to escape the crowds..

some peeyay bcXcd shots from Saturdays excursions

ended up with 5 straight awesome ski days. I thought about going for 6 last night to try to squeeze in a few more bcX turns before the forecast warmup but Monday nights beer league finals zapped my energy.

I guess todays rain was the wake-up call but it sure made me smile while it lasted!
