Instructor recommendation for bumps in Catskills?

marznc
I'm trying to convince someone who lives in NYC who wants to learn bumps to consider a weekend at Plattekill.  Anyone have a recommendation for a very experienced instructor?

The potential student is an older skier who is working full-time so skiing mid-week is not really an option.  That's why I suggested Plattekill instead of Belleayre, Hunter, or Windham.  But any suggestions for instructors at one of those place would be good too.

I teach at Plattekill on various days and consider myself to be a decent bump skier:

I can also be persuaded to ski on my alpine skis if people require training heels.

Great!  I'll pass it on.  My sense is that you might be able to teach this skier with tele skis.  Not a visual learner like I am.

By the way, my daughter got tele boots last fall.  Was still on leased skis.  Had a good time skiing with friends at Big Sky over winter break.  Bought her skis and bindings this summer.  So she's all set for the upcoming season.  Keeps telling me I should give tele a try. :-)

Ya, but we should probably give em some credit. I mean, it doesn't look easy flailing around all day with those broken heel pieces.

Yea, but you would think they could do better than a cheap door hinge and a bungie cord

Well when you spend all of your money on acoustic guitars and weed you have to get creative.

Matt is a fantastic instructor and can do on teles what most mortals strive to do on fixed heels.

Platty rocks. We need natural snow for there to be a true "bump run". Pray for snow.

Exactly. I guess pray for bumps was shorthand.

What did they do last year?

I have Gore at 46 inches count the dump of the season, 7" after lifts were closed for the season.

Whatever, the whole "season" was a bit of a miracle.

Once the price of privates at Platty was clear, the choice was obvious.  The other reason to suggest Platty was to get away from the crowds on weekends.  The skier who wants to learn bumps lives in NYC and can't ski mid-week.

Certainly hoping for a "normal" season.  My daughter is headed to school near Boston.  So I still have an excuse to be up in the northeast during ski season.  Didn't bother last season.  Still have several places I'd like to check out in good conditions.  I'm spoiled, not interested in doing a lot of driving for icy runs.

Ah yes, pause to consider that for a moment. Sno's "SNOWMAKING!" Mantra could very well prove to be prophetic and not pissy whining as you guys say.

Last year's pitiful snowfall could conceivably become the new norm. Ain't nobody no where who hasn't wondered about  this.

Massive snowmaking power would be critical.......... and all of you will  be unashamedly demanding it.
