They do a very poor job with marketing. They prefer to engage in somewhat questionable practices like referring to a fixed grip quad, as a high speed express lift, and of course there is their 8% resort fee that they charge on everything. They also sell a large portion of their rooms at Hope Lake Lodge through Groupon. Again, not a very effective method of building brand loyalty. All of this is old news, but none-the-less relevant to their current state of affairs.

They need to update their home page, get their web cam turned on, convey whatever improvements they made to the ski area over the summer, send out a press release to the local media regarding snow totals and their tentative opening day plans, and exploit their new $39 mid-week lift ticket.  None of this costs much money.

They also need to stop appearing to be financially strapped for cash (e.g., 10% bonus on gift cards and load funds to your season pass). Why would I load funds to my season pass? Some ski areas allow you to attach a credit card to your season pass, but why would one want to pre-pay anything, unless their was an advantage to do so?

Now that Travis is gone, I'm afraid marketing may get even more pathetic.

Based on their Facebook last night, and the big dump we got, it sounds like this weekend is a go.

RJ isn't a 10%  bump to whatever you load onto the pass a discount?   I know a few hotel owners that rent most of there rooms  through internet services.  It costs them 10% but occupancy is up 40% and they don't have to do anything for it.  The 8% tax would annoy me but when they have you by the balls there is not much you can do but smile.

tjf1967, I don't believe the 10% bonus applies to season pass loading--only the gift card promotion they were running.

I would surmise that HLL occupancy is up due to the use of Groupon from the start of the bankruptcy onward. In addition, when the new owners decided to sell fractional ownership at a deep discount from their previous pricing, a significant number of units were sold, which will naturally increase occupancy numbers.

They totally shot themselves in the foot by not keeping him. Travis IS one VERY talented dude, has an amazing amount of experience, and knowledge in the ski industry. Sad, very sad. That said at least he won't be missing any Sunday rippin events with us this year
