Thanks for sharing that, Benny, very worthwhile and interesting read. Makes cancelling a ski a trip due to a bad cold seem a bit trivial.

Wow, I had no idea. I met him seven years ago while writing an article on his nonprofit, the Chill Foundation. Very inspiring, was like spending time with Elvis.

Legend.

He didn’t just create snowboarding, he gave skiing the kick in the ass it needed in the 90’s.

RIP Jake Burton Carpenter. I have two Burton boards, should dust them off and ride them this winter. One is not far removed from the Snurfer, I'll let you how that goes.

Always admired how he kept the business, and, I assume, a residence in Vermont, a not too friendly state for business and, you have to admit, not the best snow, either. RIP to a great one. Sorry to see his final decade was such a personal struggle.

People used to say we partied like it’s 1999 but we were too scared to party with the impending doom of the Y2K computer crash.

I remember that, kind of. I was more of the "If the world is coming to an end, let's toast to it." crowd.

I remember thinking “well this is just silly” about all of that and I think that’s when I really realized that I didn’t need big media/corporate news in my life any longer.
Not that it was ever a thing I paid much attention to but that whole chunk of unnecessary drama really solidified my opinions.

The only thing I did was have a report of my credit history.
Other than that it didn't bother me one bit.
