January 2013: GMs Post January Thaw Input

I sent a note to a few GMs last night about their thinking going forward in the next few days. Following is what I have so far. If I get more I will post.

Plattekill:

"We are rockin the powerhouse round the clock from this point forward suckin water outta China if we have to.. Everything we can. Like starting over. Hoses are on Northface and Block right now. Fan ground mounts are on PowderPuff."

Gore:

"We are making snow now. Last night we did extensive grooming. Conditions are good. We certainly lost the powder and some of the natural, but we are in good shape and getting better every day.

Doing our normal Bear & East Side resurfacing  w/ plans to ski through guns on Straightbrook for the weekend."

Whiteface:

"It looks like some favorable snowmaking weather is rolling back in, so we will be concentrating our efforts on the trails that we have open to make them as nice as possible. The 10 day forecast is calling for snow so we expect to have a great product for everyone to enjoy this weekend."

Windham:

"Snowmaking at Windham started again at 6pm Monday and will be on 24 hours a day as temps allow right through the weekend.  Whistler, Wolverine, Wall, What’s Next, and base area are on now.  Wraparound, Warpath, Wise Acres, Wilbur, and Jib Park are next.  Before the weekend we will hit at least 3 trails on the East Peak.  With 3-5” of natural in the forecast we expect to be wide open and well covered for the weekend."

"You just need to go at that shit wide open, hang on, and own it." —Camp

I'm guessing your definition of "interesting" is your BSometer needle was red-lined by a few of those?

Take it for what it is worth.

I reached out to Hunter but haven't heard.

If I'm not mistaken. Didn't he let some people stay overnight in the bar 2 years ago when that 5 ft of snow came down

Guns are on. 16 at summit 26 at base at 5pm. Powderpuff is the main focus tonight. Tomorrow we start dragging guns n hoses over to the face and sundown. Everyday we will move guns or hoses to another trail. Hopefully we will be on the north side by Thursday or Friday when it gets real cold. We are expecting some natural in there too tonight.

DackerDan - make sure to say hello when you come. Laz.

I'm in too

I'm off the last week in feb so maybe a day trip is in order be4 we head to WF. I have an appreciation for honesty in the ski industry.

Heck, if I take talk pro into it,(that will B easy he never says no--lol) maybe we'll make an overnite out of it and hit Hunter too. I've never skied there and maybe can finally hook up with DMC

The favorable snowmaking weather is back
They are making snow on the trails already opened. The skiing was very good today where snowmaking is going on.
The 10 day does forcast does have quite a bit of snow in it. WF got 3 or 4 inches during the day today.
WF will have a great product this MLK weekend.

Laszlo is a straight shooter about everything except that "ten minutes to Plattekill sign" just before Belleayre.
