It's horrible and depressing.  Even Co. and Utah are hurting.  I feel like I'm not sure we'll ever see a winter around here lime we saw 2 seasons ago.  The only positive is that it is still better than last season!

I'm headed to Jay for PSIA trees clinic the week after next and a thaw shuts down the glades until more snow.

Open Snow's New England forecaster is  calling for a sizable snow on thursday on the back end of the thaw.  Does anyone share any confidence in this happening?

opensnow is a great weather resource. the guy who does the NE forecast , does a honest unemotional forecast.

Jay should pick up some nice snows on the backside of this mess..

a trees focused clinic with no glades available would be a bummer

Hope the thaw doesn't do too much damage.

In the meantime, I'm going to get my fill of powder at Grand Targhee. Powder day yesterday with much more snow overnight. Storm total 21" with snow in the forecast for the rest of the week!

Tuesday looks great at Gore or Whiteface if you can get off, should get 4 or more inches of snow tonight, might even have some sun early in the day. Tuesday evening the warm air comes blasting in,
Wednesday  rainy, very windy and warm. Mountain top temperatures near 50. It looks really ugly. Cold weather returns Thursday, a little light snow possible Thursday and maybe light-moderate snow Saturday.

Grand Targhee is one of my favorites.  Sign up for the 1st tracks and you get to ski like 90 mins before the lifts open to the public with some great guys in the ski school.  If you are staying in GT's lodging its only like $60 - way cheaper than cat skiing.

The most depressing forecast EVER.

Sick Bird Rider
So let's get this thaw thread back on track. I am about to give up on winter. Ullr, what have we done to displease you? Today, while at work, our part of the world received about 8 inches of lovely, powdery snow. I hope Telemark Dave got to enjoy it because it doesn't look like anyone else will. I may go for a night ski if it doesn't all turn to s**t by the time I get home and clear the driveway. Tomorrow it all goes down the drain:

I love the freezing rain icons. Daggers falling from the sky, stabbing our stoke in the heart.

For those needing translation 10 degrees C is 50 F. What's up with that? Less than a week ago it was -37 C, meaning we are having an almost 50 degree temperature swing in a seven-day period. Yowza. And 25 mm of rain is about an inch. According to some forecasters, that's the low end of what might happen. Thunderstorms?????? Crikey.

High pressure and in the mid 30s last week, but I wouldn't say we're hurting.

Skiing today was pretty sweet.

And it looks fine after Wednesday. Stop being pessimistic. Lots of season left. Despite last year, March is historically the snowiest month. Patience, grasshopper.

Nice Matt, and home at a reasonable hour too.

To me the forecast looks better, or maybe less bad than it did.  Really only Weds is ugly.

Thank you for the lesson, young Jedi, and nice turns. Actually I'm not being pessimistic, just having a temporary freakout. I find this pattern of snow building up to a nice level then getting whacked by a thaw to be very disturbing, and inconvenient. Since I could not ski today, I did suck it up and go for a night hike just now:
