i was there. skied friday after about 7 inches th nite. it started snowing heavily about 1 pm and continued and continued. skied saturday throughout the blizzard. i'll give more details later. the most heard phrases uttered and yelled during both days were holy f... and f...ing insane. skied smuggs on sunday and found 24 inches of the lightest powder i have ever skied. heard the same phrases over and over. possible the best ski days i will ever have.

Awesome awesome awesome. While I "only" skied 10 of those inches today at Mad, I can try to imagine 24 inches of the same snow. It was like true blower, but it somehow didn't just blow away. I heard someone say "you could push against it."
Good on ya. Can't wait to hear more.

i followed FIS weather report and decided to leave th nite. friday was excellent with fresh powder everywhere but this was nothing compared to saturday. the flyer aka the freezer was initially closed due to high winds but opened by mid morning. no tram all day. i was surprised that the flyer stayed on line all day because the winds were terrific. my skis were flexing in the wind and the wind was intense for the entire ride. it was the windiest ride i ever had on this chair. two locals told me that this wind wouldn't rate their top 10 windy days. i don't believe them. whiteout conditions on top. skiing from the flyer towards the bonaventure chair was a trip. you couldn't distinguish between the ground and the air. everything was all white. The title of a van morrison song, into the mystic, came to mind. the trees were the only sane place to ski due to visibility and boy were they fantastic. fresh lines all day. my face still hurts from grinning all day. almost didn't get out of the parking lot at end of day. jay had done no snow removal work. drifts everywhere around the cars. people stuck. no shovels. poor planning on their part. epic-epic-epic. skied smuggs on sunday looking for a shorter ride home. they had 24 inches of the driest pixie dust snow i have ever skied. took a couple of runs to adjust to the lightness then ripped the rest of the day. had to be more careful in the off-map glades due to previous poor snow cover. lift line waits were 10-20 min at smuggs. on saturday, they ran only the sterling chair and waits were one hour! but that meant that the madonna side was virgin post-storm and was waiting to be explored on sunday. after this 3 day powder-fest i can now get thru the rest of this no-snow winter at gore, but, i will continue to check FIS weather reports hourly the rest of the season. i"ve read the rest of the posts from this storm and it appears that everyone had incredible skiing. this kind of skiing is what gets me thru the year, hoping that it will happen again. cheers to all of you and thanks, harvey for this great forum.
