KMart was essentially bankrupt for most of the late ninties, after Les Otten bled it dry to build the Canyons and enrich himself beyond his dreams earlier in the decade. If you want to see where all of Killington's capitol improvement cash flow went, go out to Park City, and you'll find it all invested in a "mega resort" on the side of the road on your way to PC in a place that once was the least visited ski area in the Salt Lake circus, and had the worst snow. Still has the latter.
The new owners aren't exactly opening up their wallets and plowing big bucks into the mountain, which, I guess, is OK, since they don't seem to be financiers or hucksters, like ASC, but actually want to run the place as a business. Don't expect much more than they actually have to spend to fix the place. The big cost is to local infrastructure, like the roads and electric. They have to fix that real quick. The leaf peeping market this year is gone. Skiing is right behind. Sure glad I didn't buy into that house share.
