Killington

Chris
Is awesome.  Don't care if it's a waste of money, they're blowing snow on October 10th and there's a possibility of skiing this weekend.
The day begins...  Your mountain awaits.

Just checked the spot forecast for K
Going to be in the mid to high 60's three days this week.  The BTV NOAA high elevation forecast has the summits warmer than the valleys at night.

Smart marketing to drive word of mouth and internet buzz but  I doubt they could open

First PNW cycle of the season in progress now... It's full-on Winter up on the volcanoes.  Storm 1 of 3 is a bit warm... but by Tuesday, there could be ride-able snow across the Cascades above 6000ft.

I just saw a post that stated up to 149 inches for Mt. Baker this next cycle. That's like the yearly at Mount Snow.

Ya dude... I was just thinking the same type of thing... in a matter of hours, areas in the Cascades will see the entire annual snowfall of my old home in Scranton PA... I think in a good year, we would get 50 inches

I like to look at Mountain Forecast.  Not sure of their reliability over time, but I found them close with a few PNW storms last winter.

Baker at 8k......170 inches through next Tuesday.

Rainier at 14k......over 200!

When it dumps in the PNW it DUMPS!

We get some good ones down here too although they aren't quite as huge as Cascade epics.

Our mountain sits very close to the edge of the Mogollen Rim or the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau. It's basically a huge uplift with over 2k of very abrupt vertical that runs from just west of here and then south east into New Mexico. So when we get those big warm systems that are holding a shit ton of moisture we have that extremely rapid oragraphic lifting over the Rim and then the mountain that rises to 12,6. The elevations below the rim like in Sedona are around 4k so that's 8k in rise. In 2010 we saw a storm dump 100 inches at the ski area in 5 days.

Anyways...enjoy Nepa ya lucky ski bumming f#$ker! :)

Wasatch at 11k on the other hand......no luv, nada.

Front Range at 12k....dry as a bone.

So Utah and Colorado miss the October fireworks, for now.

This is for Mt Rainer , Sunrise Station..That's on the opposite side of Paradise Station..

Insane accumulation...
http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=46.8529&lon=-121.7604#.V__v6vSFns4

What I would give to live in the Cascades...Those storms are soo cool...

Oddly enough the deepest snow falls between 7 - 10k ft on Rainier..Above a certain elevation the atmosphere looses it's ability to hold precipt..

Missing out on October snow is more often a good thing for the intermountan and full on continental snow packs.

I was considering heading up there this weekend for the ski swap, but, didn't make it. My buddy sent a few pics of the foliage, and now I'm sad I missed it. Peak right now.
