Five U.S. resorts confirmed for World Cup

LJUBJANA, Slovenia – Five U.S. resorts were confirmed Monday as sites of the 2011-12 International Ski Federation (FIS) World Cup ski and snowboarding events. The five resorts are: Aspen, Beaver Creek, Telluride, Deer Valley Resort and Lake Placid. FIS announced these magic five after its annual meetings in Portoroz and Ljubjana, Slovenia.

...

Freestyle will be returning to Lake Placid January 19-21, 2012 and Deer Valley, last year’s site for the FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships, February 2-4, 2012. Lake Placid will feature a pair of night aerials events under the lights plus daytime moguls, and Deer Valley will showcase night aerials and dual moguls along with daytime moguls. It’s also been confirmed Olympic and World Cup champion Hannah Kearney (Norwich, VT) will take on moguls again, and Ashley Caldwell (Charleston, SC) will try for a repeat win at Lake Placid in aerials.

I was at the 1980 Olympics in LP  (watched the Mahre brothers win their medals in a Kahlua induced haze, talked about this in the Most Epic Day at Whiteface thread.)
You really were in a haze. Phil Mahre won the only US alpine ski medal - a silver in the Slalom.  Kahlua will do that to you.

Sure, this is not quite the Olympics, and will draw a younger crowd.  But it really puts LP and WF on the international map once again, because most skiers these days were taking their afternoon nap and sucking on their paci when the 1980 games were taking place.
You do know that Lake Placid has hosted the World Cup Freestyle (among other world cups and national races) every year since the Olympics in 1980 correct?
