Looks like this is the last weekend for both Gore and Whiteface. Just wondering what would be everyones last run? I try to end the season at Gore the way I started it, with a nice slow pace down Sunway to Quicksilver and to the base. It's been a great season I hate to see it end but the fat lady has sung.

Although there is a slim chance I may do some "patch skiing" at the local bump this weekend, my official last run this season was a doozy. I was skiing at Jay Peak with my nephew Pudd, who is a very good skier. Although we had thought we might take a mellow last cruise down our old friend The Goat, we instead decided to do Supertrail (aka Can-Am) because it looked so bumpy and sweet. Then that led into Upper Liftline and Lower Liftline. For those that don't know Jay, this means we skied pretty much top-to-bottom spring bumps right under the chair. I could hardly move at the end of it all. Then I had to drive seven hours to get home. See you next year!

I plan to ski on Sunday. Owners of our rental house have been gracious to offer us two additional weeks to stay and we accepted it. Everything comes to the end and I have to haul remaining stuff back home on Sunday.
Looking forward to ski Lies, as it was my pick last weekend. Last run would probably be on Twister. I see Twister ( and Echo) the way blue trail should be - it's rarely skied off, since it's so wide. My wife and my daughter who is not yet 4 love it. |

You're not done here, SBR. You gotta to stick around and entertain us for the off season. |
Oh, don't worry, I am sure I will have some entertaining adventures over the no-snow season.

The following discussion is hypothetical.
If I'm at Gore during the last weeks of the lift served season, then my last day is probably a Sunday. And I'm probably trying to push my departure to the last possible minute - maybe 1:30 or 2pm. I probably skied a few lower mountain runs in the morning, then hit the Straightbrook side, and then lapped the Dark Side until the pull of the road, and the responsibilities was too much, and I reluctantly admit I have to leave. Clouding out seems like such a sad way to end the year, so I invariably end up choosing Lies: Lies March 21, 2010 2pm ...to Tannery, and then up the Topridge Chair. As of this year, I've now got a new way down to the lower mountain in my repertoire. I'd finish it off with Sunway to Chatterbox if the cover was there.

Last lift service run will most likely be Superstar at Killington. Last run overall may be eastern snowfields Mt. Washington.

Mine was Upper Darby to Mineshaft. Hurt my back this week, so I am done for the season.

I was at Whiteface today and my last run of the season there was Upper Skyward into Niagra into Victoria into Upper Valley then I believe River Run into Lower Valley and down to the base. Didn't go quite as planned....Upper Skyward was a lot softer and bumpier than my earlier runs there making for an awkward descent with my tired legs and I took a pretty good spill on Niagra (just a bruised ego). Not exactly the blaze of glory I wanted to go out in but by then my legs were pretty shot and I was just loving that I was there and skiing.
If that's my last run of the season I'm okay with that but I've got my sights set on Gore tomorrow morning and I'm playing with the idea of a trip to Jay so this answer is to be continued.............. |
My last run of the season is gonna be a doozey!
I ride with Crazy Horse!

Mine was Foxlair to Showcase last weekend. We have a wedding this weekend so we are done for the year. My last run would have been Twister but the snow at the bottom of Ruby was SLOW by 2pm on Sunday and the snow on Twister didn't compare to Showcase IMO. Didn't have enought time to get up top on my last run. I thought the best snow the past two weekends was on Uncas and Showcase.
Harv - I just watched the FFF slideshow from last year. I don't know whether to feel happy or sad. |
turned out to be Whiteface: Follies to Excelsior and U. Valley to mid-station, and since the Mountain Run lift was still spinning at 3:40pm, back up and down on U. Thruway to Draper's drop and finish.
But the true sign of the fact that the season has ended is that I heavily started to read topics and blogs about the season having ended, perhaps a clinical symptom of reverse Seasonal Affective Disorder (rSAD). Who would check the webcam at Whiteface when the mountain is closed? And I can tell that and there is always waiting time on the webcam queue. And the snow coverage looks outstanding. gk |

Updated Last Run: I made it to Gore on Saturday and my final run was Cloud from the High Peaks Chair down to Lower Cloud and into Twister. Twister as in great shape and it was a fun ride to the bottom. Was this the end for me? Probably.

I sure hope mine wasn't Showcase, sleighride, Wildair...http://www.mountwashingtonavalanchecenter.org/ still a lot of snow here...but the poor man's tuck...Dark Side!

I did check that web-cam earlier today, GK. And yes, Lower Valley coverage looks very good! |
yeah, last Friday was tough. Nice day, and the mountain closed. At least with all this week's rain, I'm ready to accept reality that the season is over for me. Although, still cannot resist checking the webcam. |
