Laurentian Conditions

ml242
I was quite nervous today that the temps would get too warm and it would rain.

In the afternoon, it did hit about 36 but it stayed snow all day. 10" or so net gain. Glad I went because the skiing was way better than the skiing in my apartment.

My ticket was 24$CAD and the poutine was excellent. YMMV.

Not exactly the Laurentians, but Blue Mountain, Ontario, got 45 cm last night and it is still snowing. Devil's Glen, a private ski club a little south of Blue, got 60 cm. Blue is a three hour drive from Buffalo, assuming that you don't get searched at the border or stuck in traffic on one of the busiest highways in North America.

Bout 15" fell in Massif, 6" near quebec city resorts. Slight rain / freezing drizzle crust on the natural. Still plenty and plenty of snow if anyone wants to make a trip.

I can vouch for what the man says.  My buddy has tons of snow at his lake house in the Laurentians right now. He posted a pic this morning with lots of fresh in the background and captioned it as follows:  "It is still winter where I am from!"

Nice snow yesterday near Val David. Corn cycle is in effect but a few centimeters on top made it look nice after the rain. Didn't hit a rock in the woods. Ymmv.

lots of snow up there still. i actually think people might be getting pissed who live there. why is there still snow around? how come we have natural snow on shady aspects and everyone else has flowers? who put this snow there? will it ever be summer?

in other news, the patches are long at closed resorts. MSS is good to spin for another couple of weeks too.

It started snowing here around 11 am and really hasn't stopped. Heavier crowd today so pushed around fresh on top of carvable hard pack. Trees that were open were very nice. At least 5 inches since 4pm and it's still dumping. Tomorrow should be really nice

Yesterday was one of those days you just don't want to end. It was the last day of our trip and a great way to wrap it up. 12-18 inches with lots of newly opened glades to play in. What a great mountain. We have friends coming in for New Years so a full trip report will have to wait but here are a few pics from yesterday.

Very nice!  Out of curiosity, when did you give your little one poles? What went into your decision?

Very nice. Glad you were able to hit it right for such a big trip. Did you get to anywhere besides msa?
Harv should really move this stuff to the laurentians thread now that your trip is done but I hope we get the full tr too.

Back here,  Sutton is almost all open and bromont is just a bit behind. Looks like you were skiing softer and deeper snow though.

Today I skied boottop drifts and scratchy groomers. Not used to finding so many different conditions here when all I skied was soft snow (if thin) last year.

Crowds were way more manageable today then yesterday at bro.

Probably won't ski again except xc until Monday, thinking jay or owls head.

TR is up.

Harv is there any way you can move my posts here to the Laurentians thread? I obviously don't know where I skied.

Dom B - My oldest started with poles at 6 when her coach said she (and said coach) told us she was ready. Our 5 1/2 year old has been skiing with them some this year. She has to keep her hands up or she loses them. When she has her hands up in front of her it actually gets her to stand up more and stay there without slouching back into the backseat/wedge position. Her coach this year suggested poles with us and then poles with her group once she can ski with them all day.
