Actually, in fact, Freeheelin had used the exact same post in another thread earlier last week. That was what SJ was referring to.

Well said, some people on here do take themselves alittle too seriously. What's is wrong with a little sarcasm to prove a point? That said I worked for a private resort one state to the right that used volunteers for customer service roles. Why not have a poop ton of people that real care about the WF experience that are willing to work for free?

Nothing, unless you're trying to be constructive. Sarcasm is rarely taken seriously. If Whiteface management does in fact read the messages in forums such as these, they are not likely to pay much attention to a post that slams them, even if it is making a valid point or raising a valid criticism. They do ... they're called Mountain Hosts and there are also Mountain Ambassadors. They don't exactly work for free, as they are given season passes for a minimum number of service days. If you ever have a question or problem at the mountain, they are more than happy to help you out. They do a great job and are a very friendly group of people.

The point is about communication. They should the loudest neon jackets on you can find, they should be in number at the lift lines and when a lift is closed for what ever reason. They should not be free skiing. Maybe not even skiing at all. A "free" pass is not a huge cost to give tourist a world class experience. At the end of the day, you guys that have the season pass are the choir. The people that are buying the tickets at the window are the ones that need the treatment of a great weekend. Also, I think people that run companies understand scarcasim, negative or not. You cannot be in the ski business without a sense of humor.

you can honestly say that wf offered the best product to the customer of any mt in the northeast this weekend . i was not there.even tho i may have been skiing lesser terrain the mt was 100% open. wouldnt that be a better product for the customer?especially two weekends in a row?

I may be wrong, but I think I know who you're referring to, and sadly, I'm beginning to agree with him.

From what I have read it seems apparent that you were informed they were on wind hold. People just don't like the answer and think there must more to it.
Ask yourself this. Have you ever been spoken with someone who works for the mountain. Have you given them your opinion, I bet you have. Ever hour of the day, every day of the week they are hearing from people as to what THEY think the mountain should do. It gets old. Everyone has a better way to do it. In your job are there people grabbing your ear countless times a day telling you how to do it? Most certainly not, if there was I am sure you would get sick of it as well. They do the best they can with what they have to work with. People who think they know but don't are the worst. |

I agree with the Face4Me's point about sarcasm. I often find it to be nothing more than thin veneer for anger.
There's some real evidence that various mtn managers do follow the forum at times, and I'd bet that if they find input and criticism to be thoughtful, that those opinions would have more impact on outcomes. It's all about what MadPat calls a forum's "signal/noise ratio." At times I send links to various people. But I do it only occasion so as not to overwhelm or be a pest. I pick my spots, and never send along things like the post that started this thread. If ausable skier had started out more like this post I might have done so, as communication is (IMO) an important issue.

WF does a very good job at letting people know about wind holds. I was plesantly surprised whn I got there and Little whiteface and gondi opened. It was an awesome day and the best snow was off the little whiteface chair, so I was super stoked. Given the forecast and the wind gusts, it was an awesome early spring day--a day that I had actually written off because I WATCHED THE WEATHER! This forum is for sure a lot of people that have no ski area management, sport management, business management, common sense, or ability to analyze weather on their own without their hands being held, but they are bitter because they are getting old and probably dont ski very well. Thankfully their are a few good eggs in here. |

SJ, I know the skin trick, had them and put them to good use on Sat 2/25 from the top of the racer chair. Most people don't realize how steep Approach is until you climb it to the top of Little WF. But it was certainly worth the effort that day.

Really ? Are you for real Harv ? Then what is this...
Hypocrisy, Pure unadulterated hypocrisy. You apply your " principles " only to people whose azz you don't wanna kiss. If you feel they're not in a clique, you down play them, dismiss their concerns. If you feel they are in a clique, you proudly pucker up and shamelessly kiss away. All displayed in the short span of one page and a mere 12 hours. I often find hypocrisy to be nothing more than a thin veneer for spinelessness and insercurity. Chapstick Flatlander ? Unfriggin real....... Ciao. |

i dont understand the animosity ,& hypocrisy .im wrong to say it might have been better to ski at a mt with all the lifts running? why is my opinion wrong?

AS, You could repost your original version for today at WF. Crystal clear hardly any wind but the Summit Chair and Lookout chair were on wind hold until about 10:45am. Funny, Summit chair on wind hold but we noticed a Cat backed up to the base terminal and a ladder deployed with guys working on it, guess they didn't want to admit to mechanical problems on that thing again. Only thing spinning early was Facelift and Racer chair, Little WF chair and Mtn Run chair didn't move. When they finally got the Summit chair going about 11am Skyward was excellent for about 2 runs then started getting a little clumped and pasty since the fresh snow from the past week or so hasn't had a chance to cycle through any overnight freezes to get the good corn growing. Again the love/hate relationship with WF but what can you do? Shut up and ski and make it fast, this year it's not going to last.

Either Snowballs is correct or Harvey44 completely missed Pants' point. I doubt Pants' intent was to evoke a chuckle. |
