Agreed with WhiteFace.  Amazing place...small crowds....terrific vibe.

For some reason when I tell people they should go to WhifeFace in Ontario....I almost always get "Hmmm....where's that"....saying Wilmington doesn't really help...so I say Lake Placid....80% of people at this point say "really" and I got on to explain why they should go there....the other 20% say "where's that"...I usually walk away :)

The one small problem is that Whifeace is a difficult mountain to ski and if you are not at least an intermediate there's no where to ski.  Beginners really have almost no choice here.  I might get shot for saying that, but its true.

Still I love the place more then any other place in the East...and if I only get one trip to the East, 95% of the time its going to be Whiteface.  I like it that much!

Hip is not the first thought that comes to mind when you pull into the parking lot at Baker.  Thoughts like "That was a long freakin drive" and "If I get lost out here, they probably won't find my corpse for months"... but never ... "Wow! This place is hip!"

What does hip mean? I had to look it up.

Urban dictionary: "Beyond all trends and conventional coolness."

I don't think of Whiteface as being trendy.  When I was at Squaw there was a shopping mall in the base area. Is that hip?

I guess that list isn't for me. I don't really want a hip ski area. I want good snow and terrain.

Found the link and dropped it into your post Grillman.  Cool avatar bro.

Good point Harvey....but all 7 places on the list seemed to offer just that...good snow and terrain.

As for the "beyond all trends and conventional coolness...." point, that will never be me.

I wasn't thinking hipsters....I hate hipsters :)

I was more thinking about really cool places to ski that are not incredibly popular (ie the opposite for Mont Tremblant (even though I like it a lot))

Harve, I have a different take on "hip" as defined.   Beyond all trends in my view means "this place is not trendy".      Think hipster dress.....they try to be anti-trend, and by doing so create a trend of their own.

The chicken or egg...

I dont see WF as hip....

I would consider Timberline in WV hip......they def have a vibe going there.  Big bon fires off the front deck, everyone seems local.

Alpindale (sp) in Washington State would fit that definition for me as well.    Just something about it.

Look in the dictionary under Hip Ski Areas and you will find Bridger Bowl.
Don't ski the trees, ski the spaces between the trees.

You are so right and have such astute observational powers.
I thought I'd fix it right back

No matter what you call the list, if you're on it and its positive, it helps drive business to you. I'm glad to see WF on it.
