Finally got to do a reconnaissance of Magic on Sunday. It was my first time taking advantage of my Freedom Pass privileges. Bolton Valley will be next.
The lodge was pretty nice. The lady that looked at our Plattekill passes and gave us our tickets was a classic. I told her it was our first time there and she was like, “where do you ski? This place is pretty hard. I can ski a double black at Stratton but some of the blues here are just as hard as hard as them!” Then she gestured towards the hill above the black chair, “some of those over there are neck breakers!”
We decided to ride the red chair to the top. It was an easy choice since it was the only chair running. Of course, conditions weren’t perfect and there wasn’t a ton of terrain open given the weather but we knew that going in.
I think we got to everything that was open. I like the place.
It eventually started snowing, which was nice to see
Then it started snowing pretty hard. I guess winter is back.
Anyway. I’m glad I went. Even though conditions weren’t ideal, there was skiing to be done. It’s obvious to me why people love the place so much. The terrain was great and the humble, laid back atmosphere and family friendly vibe are all very charming. I could see from the chair all the work they’ve put into clearing out the trees. I can’t wait to come back when there’s enough snow to take advantage of it.
