Sunday afternoon began what I hope will be a long and gnarly relationship with my new home mountain. I didn't even think I'd be skiing Sunday and slept in late, but I happened to check the Magic trail report just for kicks and saw that they had practically twice as much officially open as they did for opening day on Saturday. I threw everything in the car and got to the mountain just before noon.
The place is even more awesome than I was expecting. I paid $30 for an afternoon ticket and shared the parking lot with less than 20 other cars. On my first run, I ran into a group of regulars who immediately welcomed me into the family.
Despite almost no snowmaking, there was practically 100% coverage on everything. That storm a couple weeks ago really left the mountain in top form. The snow ranged from chalky to creamy, with a thick layer of crust underneath holding everything together. It was a little slick in spots but completely manageable.
MUCH more to come on this, but right now I need to get back to work.
