When life (or in this case Mother Nature) gives you lemons, you make lemonade. As a result of Peak Resorts buying out Hunter, and my dad and I being Hunter passholders, we took advantage of being able to visit Mount Snow for free today.
They had what was basically 3 runs off the summit, a terrain park at Carinthia, and the learning center open. The Bluebird Express served the summit trails, the Heavy Metal Double served the terrain park, and the Discovery Shuttle Triple served the learning center. While it looked crowded yesterday, that wasn't the case today. There was never more than a couple minutes wait at the 6-pack, and sometimes we skied right on. There weren't many people on the trails either, which was a nice change over previous ski days this season. We arrived at about 9:30 am and parked at Carinthia. We figured that it was the lesser base area and would have fewer people and closer parking. We were able to park less than 200 feet away from the lodge. It's nice that even at a mountain with base development that one can still park close to the lifts. At about 10, we took the Heavy Metal Double out of Carinthia and skied straight to the Bluebird Express. We haven't skied Mount Snow since that lift went in, and it is a huge improvement over the previous lift arrangement. It's basically everything I like in a lift. Fast, comfortable, and high capacity. We lapped that lift all day alternating between the runs that were open. Coverage was at or close to full width and we had few issues with any bare spots. We skied non stop except for a lunch break and called it a day at about 3. Best day of skiing so far this year. With discounts from our Hunter passes, we plan to ski Mount Snow more this year. Wow. And mount snow is the king of making snow too. Well up there with Killington's capacity. This is very depressing but, glad you made it out. Not sure if you saw our ep1 teaser but, I think if you have seen it, this sums up how many of us feel.
In regards to Peak buying Hunter - smart move I think. I have known the family owning Hunter for a while.. Was our home mountain and still my uncle's - I know he is probably happy that now his pass will include Snow in his mix of places. Let's hope for more snow soon. Ray

Thanks for the report/pics. This is the second place I ever skied. I still really like it. It's gonna be a tempting option for all you hunter pass holders, especially on the busy days. Besides having room to spread out a little, its just close enough for a long day trip.
