This report is a little late.
Mountain Creek had their earliest opening in their history on 11/30/13. Of course I had to go. Terrain was very limited. Only the Sugar Slope was open. Still, I was very happy to be skiing locally in November.
I arrived about 30 minutes before they opened and waited for first lift. The snowmakers and groomers were still finishing up.
Chairs were covered in snow from the snowmaking. Luckily they cleaned them off.
Closer up shot of one of Mountain Creek's new groomers.
First chair up!
More snowmaking next to the lodge.
At the top of the Sugar Slope.
They are working hard to get the top open.
Man made powder.
Snowmaking blocking out the sun.
Its piling up.
Many people don't know this, but Mountain Creek has one of the nicest lodges of any mountain around. This is their lounge area which overlooks the slopes. The fireplace is great on cold days.
The empty cafeteria with the job fair taking place.
Everyone had the same idea, let's go skiing and riding.
View up the Sugar Slope.
I skied from opening till about 11, since there was only one trail and my shins were hurting, I only got 2 hours in. After finishing up, I headed over to South to see what the snowmaking progress was.
Snow is really piling up there as well. South and the top of Vernon will open this coming weekend on 12/14.
With the early start, Mountain Creek is setting themselves up for a great season. I hope that it all goes well in 2013-2014.
I've lived in New York my entire life.
