My first time on a FATTY

campgottagopee
No, TJ, not a fat chick --- there have been lots of those

Grabbed a pair of Patrons in a 193 from Start Haus during their blem sale. Admittingly, I knew nothing about fat skis, heck, I still really don't know anything about them other than they totally kick ass in ANY snow. Not groomers, they're ok on groomers but not great, BUT when you find snow is as if you're on groomers --- does that make any sense??? I've always enjoyed POW skiing but at times it really seemed like work due to always hitting bottom. At 6'4" and 244lbs these Patrons floated my fat ass in anywhere from 2 to 8 inches of POW. I could turn them quick, I could let them run, could make big GS  turns on them, they were just an amazing ski in the snow. I couldn't believe how easy it was to make turns with so little effort.

I am now a believer ---- I've seen that fatty light

Jesters

HPD, or anyone else w/ fatty experience, will these skis be good in that spring corn mush??? They way they skied in POW would lead me to believe that they will "float" on that stuff too. I've never liked spring skiing b/c I'd always sink in that crap and would burn my legs up fast taking all the fun out of it.

Yeah, I ski my fat skis in spring corn and my legs don't seem to tire out as quickly. Fat skis are definitely great, but I still think 83-95mm waist is the sweet spot for most eastern skiing.

Fatter on pow days, of course.

Good to know, sadly it's going to be spring skiing sunday --- YUCK

I agree that the 83-95 mm is the way to go ---- my FA 84 Pros will be the go to ski for most days

The widest ski I have our my Hell and Backs which our 98 underfoot. I almost went with the Vags this season, but went with Steadfast (which are an awesome all mountain ski) instead because I figured I get more use out of them. I know I won't be going west this season. I think I'm getting too practical in my old age.

That surprises me, not sure why, but it does (not that your practical but that you don't have fatties). Have you skied the Patrons or anything fat like that??? I truly couldn't believe how they performed --- I was all giddy inside

Even on the groomers, albeit super soft, I could set them on edge and ride em --- big turns, little turns, didn't really matter. That rocker stuff sure is impressive --- technology

Didn't Jack ski Patrons??

Now I feel guilty for not having fatter skis...thanks a lot Camp.

Before Jack became a Floridian his main tool of choice was the late great Enforcer also 98 under foot

My job here is now done

Actually, I'd guess for those of you who are NOT double extra sexy size (like me) would get the same effect with a ski that isn't as fat. Buddy of mine, who has fat skis, said it best ----- remember how much fun we had skiing POW on skinny skis when we were kids??? These skis do the same thing now.
