NELSAP Adirondacks Lost Ski Area Hike Oct 1

nelsap
Hi everybody,

Planning a NELSAP hike to a lost and one hybrid area in the Adirondacks Oct 1.

First, we'll go to Marble Mountain in Wilmington, see their old lodge, and then hike up the T-bar liftline. We probably wont go much higher than that due to time constraints. We would meet on the Marble Mountain Road parking lot near the Atmospheric Center near 10AM.

Second, we have permission from Otis Mountain in Elizabethtown to explore that area. The owner is very excited to have us stop by. They operate a surface lift on a slope, but parts of the longer T-bar are still standing.

With the colors near peak then it should be a fun trip!

If you come along and take a particularly interesting photo I might be able to use it in the next book, with credit of course!

Please post below or email me at nelsap@yahoo.com if interested so we can make firm plans.

I hope to meet some Harvey Roaders!

Jeremy

You know, I gotta take this opportunity to thank you whole heartedly for what you do. This Nelsap project has brought me much enjoyment and is very informative/interesting. I have absolutely no doubt that many, many others feel the exact same way.

While I'm not from this region and have never skied any of these lost ski areas, the walk down memory lane that you provide people is wonderful. Thousands have skied these areas and have very fond memories of their hills....kind of like home.

There is no place like home.

Well done, Nelsap.  Very well done.

I can't make it this Saturday, but I would absolutely love to do this sometime. I was just checking out your website. Pretty cool stuff. I'm getting into backcountry here and there- skied Azure like 4 times last year. I've been told that Lyon is skiable and a lot of fun. The old St. Lawrence ski bowl in Colton is of particular interest to me because I'm a student at St. Lawrence. It's short but appears to have at least one steep chute worthy of a few runs. I'd be happy to go there, check it out, take a bunch of pics, and let you know how it goes. My only question is this: how do I get across the stream from rt. 56? That's kind of a big problem.

Agreed.  Enjoyed the NELSAP site since '02.  Hope you drive by Paleface on the way to E-town.

I've hiked this route up Wface several times before, but I'm sorry I can't make it this weekend.  Actually my favorite hike in that area, which has no ski history, but still very worthwhile, is Catamount.  (which is another NY/MA ski area name).  And don't forget the Jay's which have great views of W'face.

+100.  Nothing beats real heartfelt passion for the subject matter.  It just shines through JD.
