Weight weenies.. I ride a 34lb bike. I weigh 240lbs. What the hell is 5 pounds?Get a FS you'll Never regret it. Weight is for armchair guys, the heavier the bike, the better shape you get in. PUll the trigger on the bike you think is prettiest. Just double check the reviews on mtb or any site... You be fine and wont think twice. If you ride anywhere in the east it's gonna be a bumpy, rocky rooty ride. Don't limit yourself and decide not to go ride beta, pinehill , kingdom any lift serviced cuz you sallied out and got a hard tale to save a few grams in weight.

This thread needs some porn:

I'd like to try one of these new lightweight (relative to ten years ago) dual suspension things some of these kids are flying around on.

I tried a Specialized 29r carbon fiber hardtail for a day in Baltimore last year, and that thing felt nice, too. I think it retailed at around 3000.

Work got in the way of this for the past week plus

I rode a Giant Trance X 2 that was pretty nice

The other bike I'm looking at but have not yet ridden is the Gary Fisher Trek Rumblefish.  Both appear to be similar geometry.

Does anyone have any opinions / reviews to share on these?

While I really liked the Trance but it only had Sram X5 and the closest I could get if from a bike shop was in BVT - combined that was a deal killer to me

I went back to Placid Planet today and Kenny took good care of me

I tried the Canondale Scalpel and the Kona Hei Hei again.  Kenny provided an excellent level of service and got the Hei Hei to fit by moving the seat forward and changing the stem.  He actually also changed the whole bar set out on the Canondale but it still felt streched out to me.  I took home a great new bike that I am excited to take out on the trails in the morning.  Kenny's professionalism and knowledge is a credit to LBS's everywhere and make's PP a top shop.

This was the first bike that I saw that just suited my eye and the one I really wanted.  To me this is one sweet looking ride.
